Which main characters were on first-name bases with each other?

Lieutenant Junior Grade

I know captains could call anyone by their first names, but I'm trying to think wh else called the other characters by their first names (assuming they had one).

TOS:
  • Kirk- Both Spock and McCoy called him Jim
  • McCoy- Bones was a nickname

TNG:
  • Picard- Crusher called him Jean-Luc
  • Riker- Troi called him Will
  • Troi- I feel like just about everyone called her Deanna
  • Yar- Data called her Tasha

DS9:
  • Sisko- Dax (Jadzia and Ezri) and Kassidy called him Benjamin
  • Dax- Sisko called her Old Man, and sometimes Jadzia privately, I'm pretty sure.
  • Bashir- O'Brien and Dax called him Julian
  • O'Brien- Bashir and Keiko called him Miles

I know there's more, but this is all I can think of off-hand. Voyager I'm not even too sure about. Didn't Chakotay call her Kathryn by the end?

True about Chakotay calling Janeway, Kathryn. Also true about the lack of first names. If there were two shipmates Janeway could have (also) called by their first names - Chakotay and Tuvok - neither had them  She did use first names a lot though. Tom, Harry and B'Elanna.

Chekov - Kirk called him 'Pavel' in STAR TREK II.

Riker - Picard called him Will on occasion.

Kira - Odo obviously called her Nerys, and Sisko did later on a couple times. Jadzia and Bashir a couple times, too.

Janeway - Chakotay did in "RESOLUTIONS", and a few times throughout the series, in private.

Tucker called everyone except Archer by their first name a lot.

Geordi seemed pretty good at keeping work and his personal life seperate: when discussing job related stuff it was "Commander Data", or to his face just "Commander", but when referring to or addressing his friend it was just "Data".

Troi tended to call everyone by their first name. When speaking about him it was "Lieutenant Barclay", but when talking to him it was "Reg".

Tom Paris almost always called Ensign Kim "Harry". Belanna did, too. It was part of Seven being socially awkward that she called him "Ensign Kim". Chakotay used either, Tuvok and Janeway were usually addressing his as his superior, so called him "Ensign Kim". (Janeway did call him "Harry" several times, but always to emphasize the informality of the situation.)

Interestingly, I seem to recall Wesley calling Data, Geordi, and Worf as such, without any rank.

O'Brien never called Geordi by his first name in TNG, but did refer to him as such in one episode of DS9.

Beverly also called Will by his first name.

The thing about Troi using everyone's first name... except Picard... is that I think it goes along with her duties as Ship's Counselor. A way of gaining and keeping familiarity and trust.

Spock called Chapel - Christine at least once and McCoy - Bones once.

I'm thinking Kirk was more formal than Picard in addressing his crew by their first names. He addressed Scotty and McCoy bey their nicknames. I suppose Spock is a first name. Most of the other crew he addressed by their ranks or surname. Kirk seemed on a more casual first name basis with other captains, commodores, admirals.

The Kelvin universe crew were pretty much on a first-name/nickname basis (Uhura excepted), but they mostly met under very different circumstances (either academy friends for years, or as exiles on Delta Vega in the case of Scotty and Jim)

It took the TOS crew until Search For Spock to reach that point of friends first, officers second.

While McCoy was called Bones (and Plum), did anyone ever call McCoy by his actual first name other than during a introduction?

Leonard or even Lenny.

In the very first (aired) episode, The Man Trap, McCoy's old flame (spoiler alert: actually an evil salt vampire) refers to him as Leonard. It happens within the first couple minutes. Audiences knew all about Dr. Leonard McCoy before we ever met Mr. Spock or learned what Captain Jim's last name was.

Then he's referred to as Leonard in Friday's Child by Kirk (in a sarcastic response to a child being named for them), and then as Leonard by his dad in his recollection of his dad's death in Star Trek V.

That's it. That's all I could find.

Spock calls McCoy Leonard in Star Trek Beyond When they're about to die and he's confessing he actually likes him. McCoy's like, "You don't have to say it!"

So the first time we see them when they're off duty, and most of them are out of uniform, is the first time we see them dropping the formalities of their workplace?
Facinating.
