I feel they're deliberately putting off mentioning Beverly. She's such a big part of Picard's life that she merits more than a throwaway line. I'm guessing the writers will still be deciding where things go for season two, so right now it's better to avoid the Crusher topic completely.

He didn't mention Troi either, but we know she's alive and well.

Although I know that, the spell checker on my computer says it's supposed to be Geordie.

That's my thought too. A big part of this show is going to be some sort of character arc for Picard himself. Beverly is a useful narrative piece to have on standby depending on where they plan to take that. I can see the wisdom in not playing that card too soon.

(For my own part I choose to believe that she's off at the frontier doing MSF-type work.)

I go with that too - that's what she was doing in All Good Things on the Pasteur, so that's where I'd have her right now.

Whether it's Captain Beverly Crusher or Picard is the unknown.

I agree. The first two episodes have made it pretty obvious that Picard has very little contact with his former Enterprise crew. After the attack on Mars and his subsequent resignation, he basically cut all ties to his former life. Commodore Oh referred to him as the 'Hermit of LaBarre.' In the Deadline Podcast for Episode Two, Kurtzman and Beyer talked about Picard's relationship with Raffi. They stated that part of the negative feels that Raffi has for him is that she felt abandoned by him. He resigned and then hid away making little effort to reach out to people. Kurtzman says that Picard has been overcome with a sense of shame over his decision to resign rather than staying in Starfleet to put pressure on the institution. Effectively he feels like he let everyone down. This is the reason he is not longer really communicating with anyone for his time on the Enterprise.

Given the nature of their friendship, Beverly is one of the few characters from TNG you'd think he would have stayed in contact with though. I think he cut himself off and knowing how stubborn he can be, Beverly continued on with her life. I suspect she is no longer Starfleet, but still practising medicine somewhere. Perhaps she is providing aid to Romulan refugees or something like that.

The rumor is that Patrick Stewart has signed a three years deal with CBS. He also mentioned that the writers have a rough plot for a three season run. This is why I guess we won't see Beverly until closer to the end. I think Picard's deteriorating health will present a story opportunity for her to reappear down the road.

Wheaton says he thinks it's unlikely he’ll be asked, but he’d definitely be up for it if asked.

“I think it is very unlikely they will ask me to participate in it,” Wheaton said. “I mean, I think it is just extraordinarily unlikely that will happen. If they did, I would say ‘yes,’ of course. I think all of us would say ‘yes.’ I think all of us if we were given the opportunity to put on the spacesuits again and go work together and bring those characters back, as they would be thirty years later, we would all say ‘yes.’”

I do wonder if the dialogue in episode 2 about Picard's parietal lobe defect was written with Gates McFadden in mind for a cameo role, but when they couldn't get her for whatever reason they added the character of the Stargazer doctor.

Doubtful they'd have Beverly show up for what was essentially just exposition. If you're gonna have beverly, you have to do more than just that.

It seems highly likely, as others have said, that they're saving Beverly for the right moment. Hence no tossed-off name drops or appearances until the time is right.

I like them using and old stargazer character - JL is nearly 100, 60 in starfleet. He spent just 20 years on the enterprise.

'Sub Rosa' seems to be the one episode everyone remembers Gates McFadden for during her 7 years playing Beverly in TNG. Even 'Honest Trailers' has a brief flashback to the episode:

No one seems to remember Beverly as a dancing teacher to Data in 'Data's Day,' It's one of the few occasions the show-runners actually used Gates McFadden's talent as a professional dancer - which was one of the things she was known prior to her TNG role ;):

Even though Beverly was widely known within the Enterprise as 'The Dancing Doctor,' I don't know why they never have a scene where Beverly and Picard were dancing together at TNG. They did have that scene where an alien was impersonating Picard and had a dance w/her to test whether she's returning the affection Picard is showing to her, but since it was another episode involving alien impersonating a main character in TNG, the dance doesn't really count :confused:

I agree. She's the only one unaccounted for now. If they want to bring her up, they'll want to have a lot of ooomph.

OR . . . they're not turning this into the TNG checklist show. I HOPE! "And, oh look, there's . . . Beverly!" People move on. Things fall apart. It would be more realistic, to me. Or a one-line acknowledgement of whatever, and move on.

(Truth, I don't have much hope for this option. The chance to make fans squee is hard to resist. See DSC: here's . . . Spock!)

But I don't think there are as many fans who are going to go gaga when they see Beverly on screen. Compared to those who are doing so when they see Spock, Picard or Data on screen (and I speak as a long-term Picard/Crusher fan).

Crusher meant more to Picard than to be an item on a checklist of names of recommendations for crew. She meant something to him and doesn't deserve to be ignored by the series if "the rest" have already been addressed in dialogue. And when Crusher comes up, if she does, presumably she's either moved on too or is in a much different situation.

They've gone out of their way to avoid mentioning or showing Crusher. He goes to the Stargazer Doctor for his diagnosis. She's not mentioned when Zhaban runs through a list of names Picard can turn to for new crew. Musiker, who he's not on such great terms with, is someone who Picard turns to.

Put these facts together and it makes one wonder: Is Crusher dead, not on speaking terms with Picard, or something else? The fact that she moved on is not in question. It's a question of in what way. Especially considering that "Attached" and "All Good Things" set up the idea that there could be a relationship between them in the future, and...
... Picard has already picked up some things from the seventh season of TNG that the movies never bothered with, such as the poker game and starting it as the first scene in Picard where it was the last scene in TNG. And the defect in Picard's parietal lobe.

As long as we see other characters from post TNG (e.g Raffi) and from Stargazer (e.g Benayoun)
