Why not?
Anyway, there's no evidence within Star Trek that humanity has ever come that close to wiping itself out in any war. The situation portrayed in First Contact certainly doesn't suggest that our WW III exactly devastated the United States, for example. At most it looks like government and the overall economy may have deteriorated, but given that the action takes place in Montana we really can't even be sure of that.
They were allies, not idiots. They didn't want any undesirable attention from the Xindi.I just watched Twilight and was wondering why the Vulcans weren't helping the humans?

Right. But that's knowing after the fact.
Once the nukes start flying and WWIII is on, how did the Vulcans know it'd stop before total annihilation?
Is it a matter of degree? 600 million dead, they just sit back and watch. When it hits two billion dead, then they'd intervene?
Either way, WWIII or Eugenics Wars or Xindi attack, looks like the Vulcans will let whatever play itself out for planet Earth.
