Where should I begin?

Just looking for a little bit of input. I'm finally amassing my Star Trek DVD collection. Currently, I have TOS Seasons One and Two; all ten movies; and DS9 Season One. Hopefully, I can start filling in the gaps.

I'd like to start watching all of Trek, but I'm not sure where to begin. Originally, I had considered doing chronological order:

ENT
TOS
Movies 1-6
TNG/DS9/VOY/Movies 7-11

But now I'm rethinking things and considering just watching in production order/air date, which would be:

TOS
Movies 1-6
TNG
DS9 (GEN/FC/INS)
VOY
NEM
ENT
ST09

So where should I start? "Broken Bow?" Or "The Cage?"

If I had it to do all over again, I'd start with Broken Bow. I've been curious as to how Trek would look, viewed in chronological order, by someone who hadn't watched it before.

Don't start with Enterprise, even if it chronologically takes place first. It may turn you off from watching the other shows. I think it's best to start with TNG or "Star Trek".

Enterprise won't turn you off the other shows, if you haven't seen any of them. In fact, it's the opposite that's true. The only reason Enterprise 'sucks' is because ppl were burned out on the other shows.

Well even if you think Enterprise is as good as any of the other series, I think it's best to start with Star Trek or TNG first anyway just because they are kind of the 'quintessential' Star Trek series...everything else was somewhat based on them and the formulas they originated.

I'm not saying the others didn't have original ideas of their own, but those were the originators and innovators that hugely influenced the other shows, so I think they're a natural starting point.

Broken Bow turned me off trying to watch Enterprise, so I definitely would not recommend it to anyone as a start to Trek in general!!!

I have, and it looks fine.

If you do it, just be prepared to invest 18 months of your time.

Don't get me wrong; I'm not new to Trek. I've been a Trekkie since '93. I'm just now trying to get the DVDs since the prices seem to be dropping.

I'm very much leaning towards starting with ENT, but the only thing that's holding me back is that I don't have any of the ENT DVDs yet.

I would go in order of production, date, personally.

Then again, I have virtually no imagination in these matters.

I think that if you have seen most Star Trek episodes already, then starting with ENT can be a lot of fun. However, if this is your first time viewing much of the Star Trek canon, then I definitely recommend production order. Much of Enterprise (and particularly the fourth season) is more meaningful with prior knowledge of the "later" happenings.

But hey, can you really go wrong watching over 700 hours of Star Trek, no matter what the order?
