Where No Man Has Gone Before goof I noticed...

Just finished airing on the Sci-fi Channel. Picard orders Wesley to the Bridge (Deck 1). Wesley is in Engineering (Deck 42? It's in the Stardrive section). About ten or fifteen seconds later, the doors open and there he is. Worlds fastest lift it seems.

First off, main engineering is on Deck 36. Second, why wouldn't the lift be fast enough to cover 36 decks in 15 seconds? It's got inertial dampers, so it could accelerate and decelerate much faster than a conventional elevator.

Besides, turbolifts travel at the speed of plot. They only travel slowly when holding two or more people who need to have a long conversation.

This is where I seem to differ from many fans. If I was watching that episode, I'd be more interested in what HAPPENS once Wesley is on the Bridge (you know, the story and the characters) rather than counting the seconds between his entrance & exit to the lift :techman:

That's just sheer insanity! :p

Regretfully, there is no place for you on these boards. ;)

That kind of stuff happens all the time. The turbolifts are as fast (or as slow) as the story needs them to be.

Quit making sense, you'll confuse some people.

Maybe the Traveller was influencing the speed of the turbolifts just as he did the warp engines?

[pictures the scene of the Traveller phasing in and out of existence just so that the turbolift can go from point A to B :guffaw:]

Well I thought that it depended on the warp factor. The more energy being consumed by the engines, the less there was to go around for things like turbolifts and high-hair prevention fields. Also when you travel at beyond the speed of light the turbolift arrives before it departs. However it's compensated for by switching the exits and entrances. It was all explained in that episode "Spot's Diary".
