Hello, everyone! Haven't been on this site in ages!!!
I remember on the old Roddenberry site, they had kits going for about $500 or so on there. But unfortunately the site isn't there anymore and now these phasers are like... nowhere to be found these days. Anyway, the Dustbuster is my favorite phaser of the Star Trek franchise and wish it was used in more of TNG than just the first two seasons. I do also like the Cobraheads that were used from Season 3 onward but I'll always have a place in my heart for the Dustbusters!
When I watched TNG as a kid, i remember i was so obsessed with the Dustbusters. I remember trying to make one myself out of an old glue bottle, wrapping duct tape around it, some black construction paper around the front, and filling the glue bottle with water to make a water phaser! LOL those were the days.
Episode Review:
So I was watching "Arsenal of Freedom" yesterday (the day before i posted this) because i know the Dustbusters were seemingly showcased a lot in this episode! That scene with the phony captain, after being confronted by Riker, turned into that... ... ... flying object thing that kept shooting at Riker, Tasha, and Data.
I really like that scene... not just because of the phasers but because of those object as well! After the away team would destroy the first object the next one would appear that would be stronger than the previous one! With a stronger shield too! What also made the episode fun to watch was the suspense behind it. Earlier in the episode Beverly and Picard fell down a hole. Meanwhile, Tasha, Data, and Riker were barely able to destroy the second enemy object thing, but after they do they need to hurry up and find Picard and Beverly before the next one appears and that one would be really hard to destroy!
Another episode that I like with this phaser was "Datalore" and actually I like most of the episode itself because it was kind of an action-packed episode, from the Turbolift fight scene with Lore Vs. Worf and the climax with Beverly, Wesley, and Data Vs. Lore.
It's kind of funny because in that fight scene, when the phaser goes flying across the room and when it landed on the transporter stage, you could see the black emitter part broke off from the rest of the phaser but when Lore picked it up, he tried to shoot it at Data before being transported but Lore wasn't seen quickly putting it back together!
Is anyone else a fan of the Dustbuster Phasers?
Also, did the official studio props have working lights and sounds? Obviously the blast part is added in after filming but did the prop actually have the lights and sounds when it would be fired? I would think it would be so the sounds wouldn't need to be added in afterwards and the lights that would appear around the base of the black emitter look like they could appear live (during filming).
