Where is the Mere Mortals Kindle edition?

Well, today was the official release date of Mere Mortals, and yet... No Kindle or other E-book edition in sight. I'm getting sick of this - why do these publishers keep screwing up E-book releases? They had Gods of Night available on the original release date for that book!

:klingon:

Yeah, Gods of Night was even available for pre-order. I guess I spoke to soon in my previous thread, thanking whoever was responsible for straightening the Kindle delays out. :(

And I am getting sick of people coming on here and bitching and moaning about E releases not being ready, as KRAD and many many others have said, no one on here has any say on the release of an e book, now if you want to complain, find out the details of the CBS/Paramount Electronic publishing guys and bitch and moan to them

And just for the record, I have not found a single edition of Gods of Night here in hard copy, so think yourself lucky you've got the possibility of buying Mere Mortals in a hard copy!

Note that I did not complain about KRAD, or David Mack, or Marco Palmieri. I know it's not their fault (although to be fair, it is their potential customers being left out because of their publisher).

It's bad enough that Fearful Symmetry is still not available in a Kindle edition and that Greater Than the Sum was weeks late. Frankly, this is even worse - they released the first book in the series on time but now we can't get the second?

Maybe I'll be wrong... the day is not over. But past experience tells me it'll be weeks before I can get Mere Mortals, if I can at all.

Honestly, I don't really care whether it's available in hard copy... I spend much of my time in other countries where I wouldn't be able to get a new hard copy book or be able to carry books with me. E-books have been godsends, and if a Star Trek book is not available in e-book format, I won't be buying it.
Really, Star Trek books should have been among the first to make the transition. E-books have been available for years; there's no excuse for these issues now.

You mean like with the SCE e-book line, which came out specifically for ebooks? Or the Mere Anarchy line which was specifically put out in ebook format?

Well, today was the official release date of Mere Mortals

Wasn't there something in the FAQ about the release date thing? Star Trek books (and most books, for that matter) generally don't have release dates. They're scheduled for a certain month and appear over a period of a few weeks or more, depending on where in the world you happen to be. Have we ever been given any reason to assume that there are fixed release dates for ebooks?

As far as I know, there hasn't been any official announcement that Mere Mortals would ever be available in e-book format. However, I think the official release dates for the three hard copies were announced as September 30th, October 28th, and November 25th. The Kindle book for Gods of Night was available for pre-order and was actually available on September 30th. Now there's no word at all on Mere Mortals - Amazon has only the "Please tell the publisher: I’d like to read this book on Kindle" link that every book not available in a Kindle edition has.

I didn't want to start this thread and I am glad you did, but for crying out loud, where is the freekn' kindle version???? My bookstore doesn't have the paper back in stock yet and I bought the freekn' kindle to keep from driving to the freekn store.

A preorder would be nice like gOn. I am not blaming anyone but who ever is responsible, just venting. I want the freekn' book already. MM rocked!

I think Amazon list the release date for gOn as 10/30. FYI

If you do a search for Star Trek Destiny, Gods of Night says (Mass Market Paperback - Sep 30, 2008) and Mere Mortals says (Mass Market Paperback - Oct 28, 2008). There's no evidence on a Kindle version of MM that I can find, though.

I looked up Mere Mortals and Fearful Symmetry on http://www.mobipocket.com, and they are both listed there. Since the Amazon Kindle format is nothing but a re-DRMed version of the Mobipocket format, all it would take is for TPTB to un-DRM the Mobipocket format copies and re-DRM them into the Kindle format.

In other words, they're available in ebook form, just not Kindle format.

The way it was once explained to me, the publisher would make available an electronic version of the book/whatever to the various e-Book vendors, who would then do whatever voodoo they do to ready it for distribution in their particular proprietary format. Said vendors would do so either to meet hard street dates in the case of those select titles that come with fixed release dates, or at least so that the e-release is commensurate with the hardcopy starting to hit shelves. How that works/worked would vary from vendor to vendor (Mobipocket, Palm, Amazon, etc.).

I don't know if this is still how things are done, or if the publishers are readying releases in the various formats themselves. Looking at the S&S site would seem to imply that the publisher preps for distribution via a couple of the formats themselves (MS Reader, Adobe, Palm), but they may very well contract that work.

However it works, the process is still beyond the scope of anyone you're liable to find posting here. :/

I stand corrected and rightfully so. I meant MM and you are correct about 10/28 and MM.

I am so frustrated, I can't even concentrate without my TNG fix. ;)

I didn't notice that it's listed but unavailable. I'm thinking it should be available soon.

S&S's website lists fixed dates. It used to be the case that the books became available at about 9 AM EST on those listed dates. ...not so much anymore.

..And Mere Mortals Kindle edition is now available. That's not too bad (2 and a half days past the supposed release date) compared to other recent books, but still, the delay shouldn't have happened at all. The paperback book has been available for a while already, and that required extra time for the printing process.

Sometimes eBooks are released the day after the pBook is. Don't know why that is. But it happens. 2.5 days later is not bad at all given recent history.
