Where is the brigde on a BC-304?

I've seen two conflicting theories:

1. The bridge is in the middle of the ship right behind the missile tubes.
It always appeared to me to be tucked in that raised part in the middle of the forward 'nose' section, just under the island level. In the multi part episodes where the transformed Wraith who are left on the planet where Micheal magically gets Carson's dna in season 2, I recall a shot where Caldwell is looking out of the bridge window during a space battle, and you could see those 'railroad tracks' on either side.

The bridge being in the middle makes the most sense. Having the command nerve center of a ship being so exposed at the front is a disaster waiting to happen.

I've always assumed it was on the "island" towards the back. After all, it fits with the lineage precedent set by the Prometheus and actual boats.

Looks like the model has the same windows in both spots, so they could justify using the same set for both PoVs. It was most often in the middle, though.

The two shows seemed to portray it differently, but consistantly within themselves. As said in Atlantis, Daedalus' was shown (via the missile tubes visible) to be in the middle. In SG-1, Unending, Landry looks out from the bridge of Odyssey to a view of the ship from the tower at the back. In Ark of Truth, as the ship goes through the space gate, it also switches to an interior view of the bridge being demolecularised right as it hits that tower. So as far as shown onscreen, Daedalus' is the middle and Odyssey's the back tower. Since Daedalus was a prototype, one explaination is they decided to move it for Odyssey. Or there is a deliberate redundancy incase one gets damaged.

Modern warships have a "bridge" but the ship is "fought" from the CIC, buried deep within the hull.

This is one thing BSG got correct.

It's true, we're due a new starship design. The 304s are awesome on so many levels, but it'd be great if they had something bigger or smaller to work with. It got a little wierd that a ship with 100+ crew was routinely commandeered and run by a handful of people, usually SG-1. It'd be great if they had a smaller, Al'kesh sized ship for teams to run around in. Especially since Goa'uld craft should be getting toughter to find these days.

As for the bridge location on a 304, it wouldn't surprise me if they had redundant facilities on both ships, and for whatever reason Colonel Caldwell likes to command his ship from the centre one, and the succession of COs on Odyssey (or Apollo, or Sun Tzu, or Hammond, or whatever) have their own preference.
