Where Did Series 8 Go?

I suspect the tipping point will come when BBC Worldwide says, "Hey, guys, you're damaging our profitability over here." The David Yates' Variety report on the film could be a shot across the bow at Worldwide's instigation for Wales to get its fecal matter together.

Of course, if the 2012/2013 schedule is correct and Moffat's departure already a done deal the whole point is moot. As funnily enough is Moffat's indignation about the news of a film that, if it gets made at all, will be out long after he's moved on.

Is that the answer to all of the riddles? Smith is simply off by a year in figuring the anniversary?

Looks that way

So what's more likely?

That he thinks 1963 plus 50 equals 2012 or that he knows that the Series he starts shooting in February is the one that will precede the Anniversary Special? (As opposed to the one before the one that precedes it.)

Could be that also - doesn't stop series 8 following the special, which is what the naysayers seem to think won't happen. I suppose it depends whether one thinks the anniversary season should be the one leading up to the anniversary, or the one starting from then.

Of course, a series 8 that commences with the anniversary special would have to be split over Christmas, with four Saturday's between the Anniversary and Christmas Day. So, you'd either follow the Anniversary Special with a four week break and then the Christmas Special, followed by Series 8 or you'd have the Anniversary special followed by the first four episodes of Series 8, the last of which would air four days before the Christmas Special. Then presumably the rest of Series 8 would air sometime after Christmas.

I can't say that by any means sounds like an ideal solution.

so are we getting a christmas episode on christmas or before and if before when?

Yes, December 25 @9PM EST for both SPACE in Canada and also for BBCA, check the Christmas Special thread for details and links

^Allyn Gibson, British TV doesn't work like US TV and never has though. Schedules are much more malleable over here than there are over there. Shows don't really have show runners in the sense they do in the US. Not to mention of course than the BBC aren't entirely OK amenable to the idea of a delay in Doctor Who anyway. It assumes a lot to think they are letting him do it without wanting him to do so.
