Where are they now & what's their best ST lit?

So, I'm curious whether the following stalwarts of ST lit have ST lit in the works. I imagine some have retired from writing, but the others?
  • Michael Jan Friedman
  • Judith & Garfield Reeves-Stevens
  • Diane Duane
  • Ann C. Crispin
  • J.M. Dillard
  • Dean Wesley Smith
  • Diane Carey
  • D.C. Fontana
  • John Vornholt
  • Josepha Sherman & Susan Shwartz
  • L.A. Graf
  • Jeri Taylor
  • Christie Golden
  • Vonda N. McIntyre
  • S.D. Perry
  • William Shatner :angel::devil:
I'm sure there are other MIA ST lit writers, so feel free to post about them too.

Also, if you could only recommend 1 or 2 of their books, what do you think the best of the best ST lit is by each author?

Friedman: Reunion
Reeves-Stevens: Federation
Carey: I loved Challenger (New Earth book 6, Gateways book 2) but most don't
Fontana: only wrote one novel, IIRC, and it's pretty great
L. A. Graf: Invasion #3 is awesome, but mostly known for TOS stuff I haven't read

The rest, I can't help you; I either didn't enjoy them much or haven't read very many of their works, or both.

Don't know about Trek lit, but some of those authors have definitely not retired. Mike Friedman is doing GHOST HUNTERS, Ann Crispin is doing PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN, I believe Diane Duane is writing fantasy novels, etc.

  • Michael Jan Friedman
TNG: Kahless

He is involved with Crazy 8 Press, a joint venture of several authors (Peter David, Michael Jan Friedman, Aaron Rosenberg, Glenn Hauman, Howard Weinstein, Bob Greenberger) who plan to publish and sell their own stories (mainly as eBooks I think).

More Info.

  • Judith & Garfield Reeves-Stevens
I'm not a big fan of them, but Ashes of Eden, their first collaboration with Shatner was really good.

  • Diane Duane
TNG: Dark Mirror

Her Website

  • Ann C. Crispin
TOS: Sarek

Her Website

  • J.M. Dillard
TOS: Demons

She seems to be writing historical novels under her real name these days. Website.

  • Dean Wesley Smith
Day of Honor, Book Four: Treaty's Law

Website

  • Diane Carey
The Captain's Table: Fire Ship

No idea what she's up to these days.

  • D.C. Fontana
Thought Vulcan's Glory, her only Trek novel was mediocre. I think she wrote a Star Trek comic miniseries a few years ago for IDW

  • John Vornholt
TNG: Masks

He seems to be involved with some kind of semi-improvisation theatre these days. Website.

  • Josepha Sherman & Susan Shwartz
All their Vulcan's ... books are decent to good (with the exception of the first one Vulcan's Forge with was really bad IMHO).

  • L.A. Graf
They're pretty reliable writers who produced a lot of decent novels, but somehow none of their works really wowed me.

  • Jeri Taylor
Voyager: Mosaic

  • Christie Golden
Double Helix: The First Virtue (/w M.J. Friedman)

I think she writes games based on the Blizzard games these days

  • Vonda N. McIntyre
Similar to L.A. Graf: Some O.K. novels, but nothing really outstanding IMHO.

  • S.D. Perry
DS9: Rising Son

  • William Shatner
AS mentioned above I really like Ashes of Eden, after that the novels got worse and worse.

There are lots of mini interviews, with almost everyone up to 2006, in "Voyages of Imagination: The Star Trek Fiction Companion" by Jeff Ayers.

  • Michael Jan Friedman - loved the "My Brother's Keeper" trilogy, but others didn't.
  • Judith & Garfield Reeves-Stevens - "Double, Double" was very cool!
  • Diane Duane - "The Wounded Sky" (and her hilarious DC Comics two-parter, "Double Blind").
  • Ann C. Crispin - "Yesterday's Son" (and her non-Trek novelization of the two "V" mini-series).
  • Diane Carey - "Final Frontier" and one most others hated, "Double Helix: Red Sector".
  • D.C. Fontana - Yeah, enjoyed her one novel and her IDW contributions (with Arex!)
  • L.A. Graf - most of their stuff is solid Sulu/Uhura/Chekov stuff.
  • Jeri Taylor - "Unification" and "Mosaic". Didn't enjoy "Pathways", which was too contrived.
  • Christie Golden - "Seven of Nine", IIRC.
  • Vonda N. McIntyre - "The Entropy Effect", ST II and ST III are amazing, but she'd lost interest by "Enterprise: The First Adventure" and ST IV.
  • S.D. Perry - all her DS9 Relaunch stuff.
  • William Shatner - "Ashes of Eden" - and the flashback TOS sections of the "Totality" trilogy.

Count me in as a fellow fan of the Brother's Keeper trilogy. An excellent set of novels that I must have read half-a-dozen times over the years.

Also, wasn't Double, Double written by Michael Jan Friedman, instead of Judith and Garfield Reeves-Stevens?

I've read novels by most of these listed authors, but it's been quite a while for several, or I don't have any particular faves.
  • Michael Jan Friedman -- Double, Double and Kahless
  • Judith & Garfield Reeves-Stevens -- Federation
  • Diane Duane -- While The Wounded Sky was mind-blowing, I loved the world-building and glimpses of ship-board life in Spock's World. And Doctor's Orders was hilarious!
  • Ann C. Crispin -- Yesterday's Son
  • Diane Carey -- though they're pretty "Mary Sue", I still liked Battlestations! and Dreadnaught!
  • D.C. Fontana -- I liked the Pike-era setting of Vulcan's Glory
  • Vonda N. McIntyre -- The Entropy Effect was pretty good, along with most of her novelizations
  • William Shatner -- I'll have to agree that his first collaboration with the Reeves-Stevenses, Ashes to Ashes, was pretty good. I've only read a couple of other "Shatner-verse" novels, and didn't enjoy them very much.

Whoops, I forgot to add in my favorites.
  • Michael Jan Friedman - My Brother's Keeper trilogy, Crossover
  • Judith & Garfield Reeves-Stevens - Federation, Prime Directive
  • Diane Duane - The Wounded Sky, Dark Mirror
  • Ann C. Crispin - Yesterday's Son
  • J.M. Dillard - The Lost Years
  • Dean Wesley Smith - The Mist
  • Diane Carey - Final Frontier
  • D.C. Fontana - Vulcan's Glory
  • John Vornholt - The Genesis Wave, Book One
  • L.A. Graf - The Janus Gate trilogy
  • Jeri Taylor - Pathways
  • Vonda N. McIntyre - The Entropy Effect
  • S.D. Perry - Avatar duology
  • William Shatner - The Ashes of Eden

  • Christie Golden
Double Helix: The First Virtue (/w M.J. Friedman)

I think she writes games based on the Blizzard games these days
She's also one of the trio of writers currently writing the newest Solo/Skywalker family Star Wars 9 part series. I haven't read them myself, but each one is still making it onto the NYT Bestsellers list, so she's doing pretty well for herself.

D.C. FontanaThought Vulcan's Glory, her only Trek novel was mediocre. I think she wrote a Star Trek comic miniseries a few years ago for IDW
Year Four: The Enterprise Experiment

Done as a followup to "The Enterprise Incident". Not too bad overall, but not one of IDW's best series.

Also, wasn't Double, Double written by Michael Jan Friedman, instead of Judith and Garfield Reeves-Stevens?

Ooops. I originally put "Memory Prime" for them, the Reeves-Stevens' first novel, then was going to make it "Prime Directive". There were a lot of good ones in a row.

  • Michael Jan Friedman -- Fortune's Light/Call to Darkness
  • Judith & Garfield Reeves-Stevens --Prime Directive
  • Diane Duane -- Doctor's Orders
  • Ann C. Crispin -- Eyes of the Beholders
  • J.M. Dillard -- Mindshadow
  • Dean Wesley Smith -- Echoes
  • Diane Carey -- Best Destiny
  • John Vornholt -- Sanctuary
  • L.A. Graf -- Time's Enemy
My favorite author is V.E. Mitchell.

  • Judith & Garfield Reeves-Stevens - Prime Directive
  • Diane Duane - The Wounded Sky
  • Ann C. Crispin - Yesterday's Son
  • Diane Carey - Ship of the Line (yes, really)
  • Vonda N. McIntyre - The Entropy Effect
  • S.D. Perry - Avatar (both parts)

Michael Jane Friedman - Double, Double
Judith & Garfield Reeves-Stevens - Prime Directive, but Millenium is up there and Memory Prime is also great.
Diane Duane - Anything with Ael and her fellow Romulans. If I had to pick one, probably My Enemy, My Ally
A. C. Crispin - Yesterday's Son, Time for Yesterday
J.M. Dillard - Mindshadow is great, but Demons is better.
Dean Wesley Smith - Not really sure I can pick a best. All his stuff has been kinda "Meh" for me.
Diane Carey - Hands down: First Frontier
John Vornholt - Again with the "Meh" thing...
L.A. Graf - I normally don't really like their stuff, but I loved Time's Enemy.
