(I Forgot to put in the heading - THIS THREAD WILL CONTAIN SPOILERS!!!)
It may not be a surprise to you that I did not like the homage scene in STID. I thought it was forced and that it produced a rushed BFF scenario for both characters which kind of cheats them out of being allowed to naturally come to a certain, and perhaps different, kind of friendship of their own in this new timeline. I saw it as a form of TOS fan service that worked in the worst of ways.
I know that there are a few threads already dealing with the infamous “homage” scene of STID, but this thread is specifically about one thing that I think had something to do with how it played out.
It was basically one of LOST’s remembering scenes without the flashbacks, because there are no flashbacks in this timeline. There’s nothing to "remember." This series of movies is supposed to be about slowly creating those memories in a realistic way, or at least that’s what I thought, but I don’t think that is what’s happened in STID.

When Kirk asks Spock something like "Do you understand why I went back for you," he may as well have been saying "Spock, do you remember?"
I would not be surprised if it was Damon Lindelof that wrote that “homage” scene. In fact, I think he did. The way nuSpock and nuKirk were touching hands in STID had a certain intimacy that I couldn't place (while at the same time completely lacking the depth of connection that was felt when I watched the TWOK version with Nimoy and Shatner on YouTube), and for a while I could not place why it seemed so odd to me. And then someone mentioned something about LOST’s remembering scenes and that was it.
I know there are a lot of TOS fans/Trekkers/Trekkies here that might not agree with me, and I do not expect you to if you liked the film for what it was worth. I’m just stating what was missing there for me, which was this Kirk and Spock having a “story” of their own and not “remembering” a different lifetime judging by their actions in STID. That is all. Please feel free to leave your thoughts on the subject as well.
