In my case, it was the opportunity to write something in a dramatic style (60s TV drama) that's a bit out of vogue. It was also fun to design new control panels and readouts that suited the needs of the stories and also fit invisibly into the TOS bridge set esthetic (Mr. Cutty's Weapons and Defense station). This for "Exeter", of course.
I'm helping to produce the animated Farragut episodes for several reasons, I do it first of all for the fun of it, and two because I need the artistic release. I've done theater, played in bands, and done writing of all kinds, and I need to do SOMETHING artistic to be happy. I get a kick out of entertaining, and this is a unique way to do that.
What James Cawley has created (and re-created) is very special and I wanted to add my particular expertise to the mix. Besides, when I was a kid, I played Star Trek and only dreamed to be in the settings Phase II has so lovingly wrought. It took me becoming an adult to play Star Trek the way I dreamed when I was a boy. Plus, who doesn't want to play Star Trek when you can play with the people who were in Star Trek (Walter, George, Denise, Nichelle, JG, Garrett, etc.)?
Really? Cool...I should look out my window to see where my adoring fans are
I know, as a participant in OGAM, Exeter, Farragut, and other Treks that haven't even been released, it is something about working on Trek. I know I got into visual effects because of shows like Star Trek, BSG, and Star Wars...just something about the possibility of adding to the Trek universe in some small way.
