whats your favourite movie, and why? ..and if you were to watch a selection of star trek movies (any series) what would be in your list ..and what definately wouldnt? Im interested in everyones selection (you dont have to list them all!), its been a long time since ive seen any so needing opinions as to what the majority of fans did or didnt like. thanks :)

we need a poll!

ummmm, TWOK because it is classic in every sense of the word... and not a snoozefest like tmp

if i ever need to fall asleep in the afternoon, i just pop in TMP and bam, out like a light

In six months, Star Trek XI (hopefully). :)

As of today, The Voyage Home.

Why? At the time, I thought it was the most entertaining and 'fun' of the Trek films. It has held up fairly well over time as well.

My favourite is First Contact for 3 reasons:

1-- The walk on the outside of the ship

2-- That weirdly sexual Borg Queen

3-- Picards' legendary speech 'The line must be drawn here!'

My least favourite has to be Insurrection. A pointless contrived movie so bad not even the cast looked like they gave a shit.

The Undiscovered Country. I think it really captures the spirit of social commentary that was one of the things that set Star Trek apart from other sci-fi TV shows.

It showed Kirk and crew as flawed people who had to overcome their own biases. It also had a great battle between the BOP and the Enterprise, ended with peace between the Klingons and UFP, and a great sign off. It was truly a worthy last outing for the crew.

Tied - Star Trek 2, 4, 6, 7, 8, 9

They are all a lot of fun, watch them a lot, well made, always find something new in them and a lot happens in these movies

TMP it took me out there aboard a fantastic starship that I wished I could be aboard.

For a simply good movie, it has to be TWOK. I still hold a soft spot in my heart for TMP, however, simply because it tried to say something. At its core, TWOK is really a really rather shallow "revenge" story.

First Contact, because I like The Borg as villains, we get to see an important piece of trek history and it has some superb scenes of action and dialogue, such as the deflector dish scene and "The line bust be drawn HERE!" scene.

I also really like the loose trilogy through Wrath of Khan, Search for Spock and Voyage Home, and the 'last' TOS movie Undiscovered Country. I also kinda enjoy The Motion Picture and Insurrection. Generations would have been better as a TV movie, it was never strong enough for a theatrical release. Nemesis is medicore though watchable. The absolute worst is Final Frontier, which is the only one I struggle to watch through from beginning to end.

Oh, to me Star Trek Generations feels like the most 'theatrical Movie' of all the Star Trek movies, well Gnerations tied with first contact

Tough call. Right now I'm gonna go with Star Trek III - Awe-inspiring visuals, fun story, great space battles, violence, villainy... oh yeah.

Very very close tie between TWOK and TUC.

TWOK for Khan, mainly. Best Trek villain ever. Yeah, the plot is thin, but Montalban is an unstoppable force that propels the whole thing. Also, that excellent nebula battle. Best Trek battle ever-- unless you count Nemesis, but as it's an almost complete rip-off of TWOK, I do not. :angryrazz:

TUC for the rich, fast-moving story. And Captain Sulu.

It's always a tie up between Khan, TUC and First Contact. I can never decide between them...

Khan just has a wonderful story with an old and tired Kirk being brought back into action when Khan takes revenge on essentially, an accident... putting all his rage out on Kirk. TUC has a 'down to Earth' quality where all the SF becomes secondary and First Contact having Picard face up to his demons with the Borg - with him going nuts and giving me my favourite Trek scene.

Yep, they're definitely in my Top3 as well.

TUC beating FC by a hair's breadth, maybe just because I'm in love with the Excelsior :techman: TWOK in third place.

(Bottom3: TFF - NEM - INS. In no particular order, can't decide which one of them is the worst )

Agreed.

III isn't my favorite but it is definitely an underrated gem. Trek works best as a fun action/adventure series... and III delivers that in spades. C'mon, Kirk ditched his uniform and throws on a leather jacket, steals the Enterprise, blows it up, beats up a Klingon on an exploding planet, steals the Klingon's ship and everybody flies back to Vulcan for a happy ending.

Fun movie.
