Whats Your Favorite Star Wars Special Effect

Agree in part. Unlike the space battle in Revenge of the Sith--that was a bit cluttered--the battle scenes in ROTJ didn't go on long enough for me. I'd really like to see Excecutor's swan-dive done with today's effects.

ROTJ would have been perfect if it were above a fully Imperialized Coruscant instead of Endor--so Death Star debris could be seen raining down and city scapes levelled that would turn back into green spaces over time.

"Very funny, young man - but it's trusses all the way down"

Yeah the super star destroyer dive is the only part of the effects that lets things down. I'm surprised they didn't redo it for the special editions.

Rogue One

I love the recreation of the Death Star firing, both Inside and outside FX

The resulting explosions on both planets were absolutely jaw dropping, and among my favourite FX in the film. I loved the bit where you could see the explosion reaching into orbit. The firestorm in the second one looked like old nuclear test footage but crisp obviously. Very good indeed.

That was excellent. Those guys at the firing stations were already at their posts before the Death Star became fully operation. They did their job so well in the two tests we see in RO that Tarkin kept them on. That's job security. ;)

Hyperspace. Second place: Hyperspace. Also third. After that we get into space ships. The Falcon being pulled into the Death Star is gorgeous. Oh, and that stomach churning POV dip into the Death Star trench is a winner. (And then they recreated it for Star Tours. Yowza!)

Hell, I still perk up when they go into hyperspace on Rebels.

The equivalent shot in ROTJ when they fly along the surface and into the death star through what looks like red scaffolding surrounding the entrance, the camera is twirling about all over the place. That is a stunning sequence that not only holds up today, but just hasn't dated. The end space battle in that film is just incredible. The one in Rogue One really runs it close though.

The Battle of Endor was best, followed by the Battle of Yavin.

Qui-Gonn + Obi Wan Vs Darth Maul was the best choreographed lightsaber fight (mainly due to Ray Park being the only person with actual sword training), with Vader Vs Luke in ROTJ having the most emotion. Obi Wan Vs Anakin in ROTS just went stupid with way too much CGI.

Qui-Gonn/Obi-Wan vs. Darth Maul might be my favorite lightsaber duel in the franchise. Like you said it was choreographed really well, but that music sold it for me. That was a great score for that specific scene.

In terms of best visual effect, it's been so long since I've seen Empire Strikes Back (Any of the original trilogy mainly) but I loved the Falcon scenes in that movie. Also liked the final space battle in Return of the Jedi.

That three way duel was the best light sabre fight in the franchise, the best scene in that movie, and one if the best sequences in all of the films for me. And the music was simply incredible.

The shot in "Return of the Jedi" that starts with the Death Star, and follows the Imperial Shuttle as it desends onto the Endor platform to Vader going down the ramp of said shuttle.

Awesome.

That's a spectacular shot.

I have a no bad guy t-shirt rule. (I mean, no one wears t-shirts with the bad guys from Raiders, right?) I made an exception for a shirt of that shot.
