What's wrong with my printer?

Go into control panel->Printers and Other Hardware. Right-click on the printer you're having trouble with, select properties, and then click "clean print heads." That should fix your problem.

Also, update the drivers for your printer. That never hurts.

If that doesn't work, buy a new printer and, this part is important, set the old one on fire.

if I were to reveal what the problem actually ended up being, I would be laughed off the board. Im just glad I didnt have to get it replaced(yet) as Ive heard HP printers are pretty crappy.

Don't be so downhearted. The late great Sir Clement Freud once joked that he kept 8 typewriters, because he didn't know how to change the ribbon. :rommie:

You forgot to plug it in, didn't you?

Don't worry, it happens to the best of us.

well...
I was inserting the cartridges in wrong. Instead of inserting them with the white label facing up I was inserting them with the label facing out towards me. The weird thing is the color cartridge would go in fine this way, it would even make that click sound that tells you its in. The black one would do it too sometimes but usually would either pop out or would sit in much looser & when the carraige moved it would slide off again. After I posted my question here it occured to me to look up "HP print cartridge pops off" on google & I found the solution on some online HP guide. There was a detailed diagram with photos on how to do it & how NOT to do it, and everything. I guess its happened to others, but I still feel stupid about it. :p

I like your username

thanks! :)

it could have been worse. :)

But I find HP printyers pretty good. I've ended up buying two Laserjet 6Ps off eBay. They're old, but pretty reliable, and the cartridges can be refilled. My big advantage with my purchase was it came with 10 free cartridges, which will last me, ooo, well after MY lifespan. :)

But yeah, HPs are OK.

As fgor your mistake, I've done worse, but not prepared to admit it. :D

I have an HP printer, and I agree that the ink cartridges are rather hard to load. So don't worry, mecha, you're not alone.
