What's the last good song you discovered?

Fairly recent good song discovery: "Rabbit Heart (Raise It Up)" by Florence and the Machine. Not sure I'm going to bother with the album, because it's all over the place stylistically, but this one I love. A bit like Kate Bush crossed with Dolores from Cranberries.

I thought the album was really good, even though it's not really my thing necessarily. But then, I love albums that are all over the place stylistically (as long as they can maintain consistent quality, anyway).

Recent album discovery: xx by The xx (sample track: "Crystalised"). Mopey boy and girl vocals, lofi electronic beats, guitars. Think Young Marble Giants, Tricky, Mazzy Star, the Cure circa 17 Seconds, the Notwist, the Jesus and Mary Chain's quieter songs, even Chris Isaak, distantly.

That description makes them seem more interesting then I remember them being from the short bits I heard. Maybe if I listened to the whole album it would make sense, but the songs I heard a while ago were pretty dull. As opposed to, say, Colossal Youth, which sounds great in small doses but gets a little tiresome after a whole album (though it's still really good). Obviously, all in my opinion. I've heard good things from other people.

Can't always judge by hearing songs in isolation, which is why I'm still tempted to get the Florence and the Machine album -- it all might make more sense if I take it in as a whole. The xx may arguably be a bit samey over the course of the album, but I think it really works as an album, building up a definite mood.

Lungs is all over the place stylistically, yet I really like Florence's voice. She has a lot of energy, and she has a fantastic set of pipes. But I'm not sure I can recommend Lungs; I like listening to the album (particularly "Kiss with a Fist," which is just really infectious), there's a certain darkness to the lyrics that I like, but I don't see anything lasting there.

I saw this video a week or two again late one night. And then I saw Bluejuice on a sports program. Listened to the song a few more times. The video clip is amazing, and the song is catchy. This is the extended version, with a little intro.
