Fairly recent good song discovery: "Rabbit Heart (Raise It Up)" by Florence and the Machine. Not sure I'm going to bother with the album, because it's all over the place stylistically, but this one I love. A bit like Kate Bush crossed with Dolores from Cranberries.
I thought the album was really good, even though it's not really my thing necessarily. But then, I love albums that are all over the place stylistically (as long as they can maintain consistent quality, anyway).
Recent album discovery: xx by The xx (sample track: "Crystalised"). Mopey boy and girl vocals, lofi electronic beats, guitars. Think Young Marble Giants, Tricky, Mazzy Star, the Cure circa 17 Seconds, the Notwist, the Jesus and Mary Chain's quieter songs, even Chris Isaak, distantly.
That description makes them seem more interesting then I remember them being from the short bits I heard. Maybe if I listened to the whole album it would make sense, but the songs I heard a while ago were pretty dull. As opposed to, say, Colossal Youth, which sounds great in small doses but gets a little tiresome after a whole album (though it's still really good). Obviously, all in my opinion. I've heard good things from other people.
