What's the deal with Tim Russ's music video?

In college, I had a roommate one semester who thought he was a talented rapper. He would make crude recordings of his "songs" and then make us listen to it. The songs were just awful, and he would always immediately ask us, "did you like that?" It was really annoying and awkward. But anyway, I digress...

I was checking out the special features on one of the Voyager DVDs and there was a music video -- more or less -- staring Tim Russ. It was really weird... Anyone else see this? I'm sure it has been talked about before, but it was almost comically bad.

Agreed.
The low budget video and setting don't help it much either.

However, I do recall radio personality Howard Stern had challenged Tim Russ to a battle of the bands contest. Stern has a pretty tight band but Tim Russ and his group proved to be better and won the battle. That proved to me that Tim has the ability to play better music than what he writes.

The video is indeed low-budget. I'd have shot it outside. A desert, or a beach or a field under a night sky, some landscape of some sort. Almost anything would have been better than a set that looks too much like crew quarters on a starship.

As for the song itself, I don't dislike it but it has a very 80s feel to it. I can easily "hear" it on an Alan Parson's Project album from that period. I think it would be right at home on their "Gaudi" album actually.
