What's In Your Thanksgiving Meal?

I tend to watch the Food Network a lot, and recently they had an episode of Food Network Challenge centered around, who'd have guessed it, Thanksgiving. They had four families preparing their ideal Thanksgiving dinner, and they were all totally different.

That got me thinking, how does other Thanksgiving meals compare? Everyone's got their different traditions and stuff and I'm kinda curious what some of them are.

So for those of you who participate in Thanksgiving, what does your big dinner typically have?

Mine's usually roasted turkey, regular Stove Top stuffing, turnip, mashed potatoes and gravy, green bean casserole, corn, cranberry sauce, and crescent roles...

I've gotta say, the stuffing is my favorite. :p

We actually had turkey this year. Last year, we didn't. It was a very traditional Mexican thanksgiving meal, lol. Let's see, this year was turkey, rice, and macaroni salad. And a lot of desserts too. An American Thanksgiving with a Mexican touch. ;)

Turkey, mashed potatoes & gravy, yams, herb stuffing & green beans. We had those heat and serve rolls too...cherry pie for desert...we have apple pie, pumpkin & sweet potato...but those won't be eaten for several days.

My roommate was amazingly thoughtful and cooked an entirely diabetic-friendly Thanksgiving dinner. We had roasted turkey with orange and leek, topped with a cranberry, orange, and rosemary reduction, arugula salad with pears and toasted walnuts, green bean casserole made with chestnut flour to reduce carbs, and for dessert low-sugar pumpkin pie with homemade orange blossom whipped cream. It was amazing. And when I'd usually require upwards of 10 units of insulin for a Thanksgiving dinner, this one required only 4.

My dinner was quite good. Here's what I had:

Cranberry Stuffing
Bread (Weakest part of the meal actually)
Turkey
Sweet Potato Pie with Marshmellows
Bean Casserole
Salad
The rest of the family had Wine, I just stuck with Milk
Mashed Potatoes
Cranberry

We have a lot of Leftovers.

It's been potluck-style for the last 8-10 years at least, whether with friends or with family, so it varies depending on the number of people attending and what each offers to bring. The standards are always turkey, stuffing, and mashed potatoes. Beyond that, there's usually one or two other vegetable dishes, one or two different salads, one or two different desserts, cranberry sauce, maybe a pasta or a rice (or both)...it varies.

This year I spent it with friends, and there were about 25 of us, so a huge variety of dishes...too many to list. We ended up with a couple of duplicates even.

We have turkey (and gravy), yams, cranberry sauce, green beans with almonds, fruit salad and cornbread stuffing. Then, for dessert, there's pie (pumpkin or pecan) and ice cream. Everyone pitches in to help and Mom supervises.
