What's this 'other' taking up 6gb of space?! I have a 16gb iPhone 3G... no idea what it could be! Any ideas?:cardie:

I "think" (I don't have an iphone, but just making an educated guess) that it is a bunch of things. It could be the OS itself, I mean it has to be there right, and maybe temporary internet files, cookies, SMS/MMS messages, emails, contact info, saved games, album info etc...

I just saw this post on another forum

I found the solution to this for me was going into the Media folder within iPhone and deleting the files located in /Photos/Thumbs/ and then resyncing. In my case it was storing over 3 GB of picture information when there was much less than that in pictures.

I dunno, maybe worth a try, probably just a lot of junk files there that are stored.

Part of the "other" is definitely the OS, but it shouldn't take up anywhere near 7 gigs of space. More like a couple hundred MB. I concur with Brent.

I opted not to get an iDevice when going mobile with the internet, but I was able to find an app. that could tell a lot of details about how the memory is used.

I'm sure a similar app. must exist for the iPhone as well :)
