What's a good replacement for Team Fortress 2?

After about 5 years and 700 hours the game is starting to lose my interest. It had a good run, but it's time to move on to a new online FPS. It's time to take off the hats.

I'm pretty into gaming, but I rarely poke my head into the 21st century when it comes to video games. As a result I have no idea what's out there. Apparently there's a Modern Warfare 3 out; I thought we were still on the first one. Who knew?

I'm aware of Battlefield 3 and Call of Duty 6,412,590, but those can't be the only online FPS on the market. What are my options here? Is Counter Strike still big?

It's only now STARTING to loose your interest? Bloody hell mate, I gave up on it back when the micro transactions started and the hat thing started to get out of hand.

As far as alternatives...yeah, I'm pretty sure your choices are limited to just BF & CoD. Even if they're not actually CoD or BF, they may as well be. You might like 'Left 4 Dead 2', though it's not the same kind of free-for-all team based combat you're looking for and I haven't played that in ages either, so no clue what the culture is like these days.

I've seen a game called 'Monday Night Combat' advertised here and there which looks very much in the same vein as TF2, plus from what I gather there's a F2P version coming soon, so that might at least be worth a go.

I have no interest in Call of Duty or Battlefield, so that's disappointing to hear. I know that those two games are the big two right now, but you'd think that the gaming industry would be big enough for a close third. I suppose Team Fortress 2 is that close third.

Anyway, Monday Night Combat looks fantastic. The base building aspect of the game sounds like it would add a lot of depth to the gameplay and I just love the cartoony style of the graphics. And hey, you can ride a giant chicken. That right there pretty much sold me on the game.

I'll wait a little bit to see if it goes F2P, but if not I'll just buy it. It's only $10.

I just checked steam and the F2P 'Super Monday Night Combat' came out on the 19th, so I'm downloading it right now. Looks like a lot of fun! ;)

Well that's some awesome timing on my end. I couldn't have picked a better time to get tired of TF2.

Downloading now.

I think I like the game, but I'm not sure what I'm doing. I get the shoot people part, but there's a lot to learn for a simple freeware game. I'll have to spend a little more time with it before I judge it.

There's also Tribes Ascend which is a free online FPS. Its in beta right now and while I haven't played it I've read some good reviews and my friends who have played it have said good things about it.
