What's a classic movie that you just don't like?

For me, it's Taxi Driver. I appreciate the filmmaking and the impact it must of made in '76, but I've always thought it was over-rated.
Also, (please be kind) The Shawshank Redemption. I'm not a fan of prison movies.

I recently watched Dark of the Sun from 1968, and hated it. Not for the reasons I saw other people give; I just thought the ending was stupid, nonsenical garbage. Not sure if it counts a a classic though.

I hate The Haunting from 1963.

I found Chinatown a bit of a let down.

It's my movie on the surface, but I found it rather difficult. And I think... a spoiler tag for a 1974 movie might seem overkill but I'll do it...

I feel it relies a lot on the death of Evelyn, which is probably why it's now very popular. It's the denouement. Sometimes a shock ending redeems a film. For me, in this instance, it didn't and almost relies on it.

I should perhaps give it a fresh watch. Some films I like more a I got older and have the older brain and attention to appreciate it more. Star Trek: TMP I rated low when I was young as it was 'boring', but rated much higher in older life as I saw its beauty.

The Godfather, I hated every single character and I don't like watching movies with no one to root for.

2001 A Space Odyssey, booooring. Why was this almost 2 1/2 hours long? Nothing happens for at least half the runtime, I can only look at silent tracking shots of space ships for so long before I lose interest.

Tom Hagen, Kay, early Michael, Fredo, Vito, Khartoum, Appolonia, Connie and arguably Sonny deserve some sympathy. Though an Italian friend of mine found it ''stupid'' while never getting past the John Marley bedroom scene. So she returned the 50th anniversary magazine I earlier found for free after selling it to her for three. One week later I resold it and received a 60 percent tip. How could one refuse that offer?

I'm giving this a like just because you used a spoiler tag. (I haven't seen the movie though, so I can't share an opinion.

To keep this on-topic, I've never enjoyed a Stanley Kubrick movie. The Shining, 2001: A Space Odyssey, A Clockwork Orange, none of them worked for me. I thought the 2001 novel was alright though.

I saw it in the big screen about decade ago, a bit more, and I see almost more an experience than a movie. And weirdly how I said up thread that I related TMP higher later in life I credit 2001 a lot. It's that big majesty, and slow immersion.

I totally get why someone wouldn't like it though. I think with movies like that there's a lot of right time, right place.

Superman: The Movie for me. Yes, Reeve is perfect as Superman, but his Dorky Clark shtick is unbearable, Gene Hackman's performance is an unfunny joke, Margot Kidder's performance isn't remotely charming or intelligent-seeming enough to attract a demigod, and the overall flick, despite a few good moments here and there, is dull as rocks. I understand why it's held in such high esteem due to its context and place in genre history, but, taken strictly on its own terms, it just plain sucks, and does not hold up.

What's considered classic? If it's the 25+ years mark that I've see some mentioned before, it's The Matrix for me. I liked some of the earlier scenes and the themes of the movie, but the long fighting and action sequences got boring pretty quickly.

I feel that way about a lot of movie fight sequences though, once it gets past 30 seconds or so I'm just waiting for them to finish.

It's just as much a poem (in three parts) as it is a movie. Reading Jack Kirby's treasury adaptation of 2001 first seemed to help me comprehend it all.

Same here. But I do often mix FRENCH CONNECTION with SILENCE OF THE LAMBS and NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN. Three villains prevail, all winning Best Picture in the process until THE DEPARTED bucked that trend.
