What'd be the worst thing to happen in the vampire genre in film & TV?

BDuncan

Lieutenant Junior Grade
What do you (humorously or seriously) think would be the worst thing that could happen
(and/or already has happened) to the vampire genre in film, TV, literature and why.

Worst thing? Stephanie Meyer.

A virus that wipes out every emo teenager on earth.

^How is that a bad thing, exactly? ;)

Worst thing? Stephanie Meyer.

I was just gonna say Twilight, but yeah, the author herself works too.

30 min sitcom based around Vampires. Hey ABC did it with the cavemen who's to say someone hasn't pitched the idea?

Didn't emo-pires start with Stuart Townsend playing Lestat?

Lack of substance...

I thought townsend did a pretty good Lestat, unfortunately he didn't have the right hair. I think if he would have been in a well written version of The Vampire Lestat he would have been fine. Well if they would have dyed his hair blonde.

Dont think he was ever emo though. It was kind of a weird Goth metal hybrid thing.

Bad for the vampire genre to lose 90% of its audience. :D

...which reminds me of the fact that I have NEVER been able to get into anything vampiric. Maybe Anne Rice's first two novels, but that was a passing fancy years ago.

Everyone come up with original vampiric ideas that haven't been shown or at least not done to death. Maybe there's something there that will click.

Such as: a remake of Dark Shadows on TV (if it coincides with the Dark Shadows movie, so much the better - doesn't even need to have the same actors - Zachary Quinto is the obvious choice as Barnabas.)

Stuart Townsend captured a side of Lestat that Tom Cruise couldn’t, the brattiness of the character. Lestat was a self-aggrandizing little jerk, and Townsend played that perfectly.

Though what I think would make a kick-ass TV show if done right (i.e. on HBO or Showtime) is a series based off of Vampire: The Requiem. If they can balance the horror and undead politicking aspects of the game and temper it was plenty of blood and gore, you would have a fine example of a vampire show with something for everyone, especially since the Requiem setting is so diverse to begin with.

EDIT TO ADD: What would make a Vampire the Requiem series far more interesting is if they set it sometime in the past, say the 50s or 60s and jump ahead a decade or so for every season.

Re: What'd be the worst thing to happen in the vampire genre in film &

Frankly, I'm still waiting on a good adaptation of Dracula with modern (though subtle) effects and period production details... and without Keanu, or making D a good/misunderstood guy. So, I guess not getting that would be the worst thing.

The only other vampire media I really enjoy is LXG the movie.
