What Would You Ask? (Trek interview)

As many of you here may not know, I created and run some film/TV compsoer websites, and I've interviewed a number of composers (examples: Marc Shaiman, Gabriel Yared, and David Shire).

One of the things I do is I let fans post suggestions for questions, and I'll take the best or most interesting and use them in the interviews.

Anyway, proud to say today the newest interview to come: Jay Chattaway
:D

Please, skip questions asking for copies of unreleased scores, and please no questions about whether we'll get Trek TV scores on CD; now that Paramount has a new head of music who has decided he wants score to get out (and we have started reaping the benefits; thanks Randy Spendlove!!!), it's only a matter of time (NOT "if") we start seeing CDs -- though I will ask about a time-table.

Only difference this itnerview time is Star Trek, so I am posting here. :)

The really snappy dramatic stuff in TIN MAN is EXACTLY what TNG lacked in most of its scores (even the good Jones ones): a sense of music being so strong it is almost competing with the visuals, like TOS.

Was there a particular film or film sequence or composer that drove Chattaway's approach to that end of the score?

Also let him know that there is one person out here (me) who watches DELTA FORCE just to hear his theme music ... it is a cheesey delight that makes me think he could have done wonders with ACTION JACKSON.

No questins, but I just performed Parade of the Tall Ships (concert band piece) once again, and it really holds up nice.

Bringing this back to the top in hopes of getting the attention of those who might have missed it. Hard to believe the most well-populated Trek board has so few fan questions for Mr. Chattaway.

Did he feel any pressure to tone down the music's impact to stay subordinate to the action?

Does he feel that there is a time and place for the score to REPLACE actors dialog.

After some delay (the holidays, bad communication on my part, and some projects on his end), I am pleased to say the interview will be up in a few days. :-)
