What would make a perfect Doctor Who series finale?

Joe Washington

Fleet Captain

If god forbid Doctor Who were to end one day, what are you looking for in its series finale to make it the perfect closing note for a legacy of a show?

Regerates into William Hartnell, Suffers Sever Amnesia, Steals the Tardis, picks up Susan, and lands the Tardis in Trotters lane and tells Susan to have a good day in school.

The Doctor regenerating into a new body inside the TARDIS and then sitting up and winking at the camera and saying, "It will never truly end, you know..."

As a variation on what Meredith said:

At the conclusion of an exciting adventure, the 47th Doctor says, "You know what? It's time for me to retire. I"m going to settle down on Gallifrey at last."

[We're assuming the Time War has been undone]

He sets the TARDIS coordinates for ten-zero-eleven-zero-zero by zero-two from galactic zero center.

He drops the old Type 40 off, leaves the key in the door, and walks away. He turns around and sees an white-haired time lord, with a teenager in tow, furtively sidle up to the abandoned time machine with a "I wonder what that's doing here." As he and his charge enter the TARDIS, we hear William Hartnell say, "Earth...London. The 1960s." Dematerialize.

The camera pans back to the 47th Doctor, who smiles and walks off into the sunset.

Much the same way Survival ended. The Doctor says something whimsical and quasi-poetic to his companion of the moment and they walk off to have further adventures either in our imagination or in a series of Virgin novels.

The Doctor sets the TARDIS controls for November 5th 1955 and finds out that Roger Delgado is actually his father.

I'd have it where, to save existence and actually wipe out the Daleks for the final time, The Doctor chooses to overwrite his own timeline. Final smile from the Last Doctor, he flips the switch, and everything goes white.

Slowly, it fades into a view of the stars, pans down to Earth, zooms down into a nighttime scrapyard, past a small sign that reads "76 Totters Lane", to finally come to a stop as we see/hear the TARDIS landing. After a moment, the doors open and a CGI William Hartnell and Susan come out...

"Where are we, grandfather?"

"Oh my child, this planet is called 'Earth'."

"Is it dangerous?"

"Hmmm? Dangerous? I don't know, my dear.....I've never been here before. Let's find out, shall we?"

END.

The Doctor destroys the Universe in order to cause the Big Bang. (The real big bang, not a reboot.)

He's there at the beginning and at the end.

BIG CGI battle with billions of daleks. The doctor obliterating them and losing his companion.

Five minute speech by someone on the doctor accompanied by uplifting music by Murray Gold.

The Doctor tries to neutralise an object that will cause a second Big Bang, but realises that he doesn't have time. Instead he refuels the TARDIS and programs it to take the object as far forward into the future as the TARDIS can go on a full charge. The Doctor and companions exit the TARDIS as it prepares to leave. The final shot is a POV from the interior, with the Doctor standing on the threshold looking in. As the countdown nears its end, the camera zooms in on the Doctor's face as an enigmatic smile crosses his lips. Cue credits.

I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched c-beams glitter in the dark near the Tanhauser Gate. All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain. [pause] Time to die.

The 13th Doctor saves the universe, again, then falls down to die. His companions cluster round him.

"He'll regenerate," says Jack.

Except he doesn't. His dead body just lays there, then the camera pans to part of his outfit (think lettuce, cat pin, bow tie) and the titles run soundlessly by...the end.

Won't happen though so I actually think Bones has the right idea.

I think you know which idea I prefer. ;)

About 2/3rds of the episode should feature 10 and Rose during previously off-screen time during the episode "The Girl in the Fireplace." They will be interacting with holographic recreations of the historical record of the current doctor's current adventure (which is in the past of the 10 & Rose's location in the general time-wimey timeline.) Got all that? Good.

They will be attempting to gain some insight into whether or not they should try to save Madame de Pompadour.

Also, the current doctor's story will be set 10 years in his personal timeline after the last time we saw him, but he and his companion will be exactly the same with 1 minor costume change each and one minor set change to the TARDIS control room.
