What will happen to TOS Star Trek Books for 2009?

2008 there was supposed to be no releases of Original series Star Trek books due to the movie coming out in Dec 08. But now that has been pushed to 2009 in May. :censored:

Now what? Do we have 2 years of no Star Trek books dealing with original series characters? :klingon:

What about the planned sequel to Shatners Academy series? Does it go ahead for a release or is it put off even longer? :brickwall:

There's still the third volume of Kevin J. Ryan's trilogy coming out in the first half of 2009, from what I understand. So we're not bereft of Kirk and his crew. :)

According to Shatner, the first book hasn't been selling well, IIRC, and he was blaming Pocket Marketing for failing to push it, and Simon & Schuster Audioworks for not doing an audio edition - rather than wondering if it maybe wasn't as good as some of his other hardcovers. ;)

Meanwhile, though, IDW Comics has lots of TOS era comics planned throughout 2008 and 2009.

Yes, you remember correctly. You can see his ramblings here.

Presumably the reason for the delay was that the Pocket authors and editors wouldn't have known what was going to be in the movie, so that any tie-in books would have run the risk of contradicting it. But the movie is now more than halfway through being filmed; that hasn't changed (although it's possible Abrams will go back for reshoots now that the writers' strike is over and he can tweak things).

So it's possible that Pocket could develop some TOS tie-ins consistent with the movie, if the filmmakers cooperated. That's the big "if," since Abrams is notoriously secretive about his films, especially this one. But it's conceivable that the delay could actually be beneficial for tie-ins, in that maybe something could be developed to come out in conjunction with the film's release.

But that's just my own uninformed speculation. The most I can say with any confidence is that there's no reason to assume at this point that 2009 will have to be devoid of TOS-era fiction.

And at least two of the Myriad Universes novels (mine and Bill's) are set in the TOS era.

The third Errand of Fury volume is still on track for a January 2009 release.

Yeah, and I think he's become even worse since the whole Lost Season 3 finale fiasco.

^ Hey, don't wait on us. Go ahead and post your review to Amazon now. Avoid the rush.

Hey and we could give it the obligatory one star rating while we are at it!

Speaking of which, it really ticks me off that a book, movie, or whatever can get excellent reviews and there is always the one or two jerks who are determined to bring the rating down just because they can. That's one fault the Amazon review system has but I still like reading what other fans thought about items before I purchase.

^Agreed. I just wish that people couldn't put up reviews before it comes out. It drives me crazy when go looking for a review and all I can find are people giving it 5 star reviews because they are excited for it or 1 star because it looks stupid to them.

A few years Pendragon Pictures released a version of The War of the Worlds, set during the 1890s. A faithful adaptation of the Wells novel, rather than bringing it forward to the present like other versions.

It's a piece of shit.

It's three hours long. It's turgid. It's shot through filter lenses to give the whole thing a sepia tone. It contains long passages of characters walking past shrubbery. It's absolutely terrible.

I posted a one-star review of this at Amazon. Frankly, the film didn't deserve that much. It was entertaining, only for the train-wreck qualities of the production. It's something that no one should ever waste their money on.

I wasn't the only one to leave a one-star review. So did dozens of others.

And suddenly a spate of five-star reviews showed up. "Best film ever made!" were the text reviews.

Pendragon Pictures had gotten sock puppets to pull up the review score and hide the negative reviews of the film.

OT: That's really a shame. I would love to see a really good version set in the original timeframe.
