What was your worst TNG episode?

Without any doubt, Code Of Honour. I used to say that it would have fitted better within TOS but now that I think of it, I extremely doubt that it would have been in any way good enough for TOS and that's probably saying something.

Time loop stories aggravate me to no end, so "Cause and Effect" would be up there for me.

As time loop episodes go, I thought "Cause and Effect" was perhaps the best. Certainly better than the garbage that was "Time Squared." It gave us an excellent teaser and I thought Frakes did a good job of directing, making each time through the loop unique. (Frakes is far and away my favorite director to come out of any of the Trek casts).

However, I did think the "three" thing was a bit ridiculous. Why not just send "shuttlebay" as the word?

They did say it could only be a few characters maybe a word. Shuttlebay is too long.

If they wanted to convey Riker's plan was the correct one "Will" would have worked.

That plan was completely tied into how Data would perceive any message from the previous loop. Having "3" appear as insanely often as it did worked exactly how it needed to for Data.

It was Data's mnemonic device. May have been better ways to do it for us, but everyone has their own take on works as a mnemonic device.

(In THE OFFICE, Michael Scott has an insane way of using mnemonic devices. But it fits his personality.)

I think my favorite part of "Cause and Effect" was tuning in when it originally aired just to see the E-D blow up and spending a few seconds wondering whether they'd moved the airtime for that week or otherwise WTF had just happened.

Other shows have on occasion done some very effective time loop episodes (SG-1 in particular comes to mind), but I'm not sure any of the others have had the same immediate impact.
