What was your answer when someone IRL asked about the 2009 film?

Actually, no one did. No one I knew that wasn’t a Trekkie/trekker. One of my Trek friends didn’t think I would’ve liked it.

The 2009 film seemed like it was the Star Trek film everyone I knew in Real Life wanted to see. It probably seemed that way to a lot of other people here too. So, I couldn't have been the only one here who had the following happen: everyone at work, everyone I ever knew from high school or college who I ran into, and anyone I still knew at all, was asking me, "What do you think of the new Star Trek movie?"

I knew most of them weren't hardcore fans and they just wanted a quick answer, but they all wanted to know my take. It got annoying after a while, but I took it in stride. I figured, "How often will this ever happen again? Live it up."

So, before the movie was released, I said, "I'm looking forward to it!" or "Can't wait to see it!" whenever asked. After I saw it, I said "I thought it was great!" If I knew they'd seen TNG (and had especially seen Nemesis): I'd say, "It was better than the last one!"

Those were the answers I had prepped in my mind because I knew I'd be asked a lot. Luckily, they were the truth.

So, did you have any prepped answer in case that happened to you?
Can't say it was ever a question I thought I'd be asked. In '09 I was working with people who were at least a decade younger than myself. They were into KOTOR and WOW. Though one guy saw it and really liked it. He only saw it because the movie he went to see was sold out or something.

of the few friends/relatives I brought it up to (or they brought it up to me) first of all id tell them Nimoy was returning as Spock and theyd be abit surprised by that (guess even to a casual/non fan they knew he hadn't been in Trek for ages) and that also it was the origin of original Trek like Batman/Bond did but that time travel might be involved so not a flat out reboot (hence Nimoy). remember saying to one guy wed probably get to see Kirks Kobiashi Maru test (he knew Trek enough to say that to). mightve mentioned it was being directed by the MI3/Lost guy too ..and that ultimately it was going to be a much bigger deal of a movie than usual. so yeah I think I intrigued a few people into seeing it :)

And ST09 is the movie that made me love Trek again after huge burnout from years and years of dull 24th and 22nd century spinoffs.
Kor

Same here, to some extent. I had only watched a handful of episodes of ENT and VOY, after having only made it a couple of seasons into DS9, and Nemesis was the first of the movies that I didn't even bother seeing in the theater, I was so bored by Insurrection.

It was basically the hubbub about the announcement of a new movie being TOS-oriented that got me back in, first by getting back into the novels, and then following with a massive watch of all the series that I had missed. I was a stay-at-home dad at that point, so I had the opportunity to watch a lot in little fits and starts over the period of a year.

So I can't help but be thankful for 2009.

Everyone at work knows I'm a trekkie and has asked me what i thought about the jj movies. My answer is always "they're ok stand alone sci fi movies but not good 'Star Trek'. If you haven't seen other Trek you'll probably enjoy them"

Huh. I think I'd tend to give the opposite answer...that they're not great sci fi movies but if you're a Trek fan you'll probably enjoy them.

I am a closet STAR TREK fan, but did get axed about certain details about this movie, by an older lady seated next to me. She seemed to have some general knowledge of STAR TREK, but would whisper need for clarification, at certain points.

I told anyone who asked I thought it was great. No one who saw it and told me about it disagreed (and only one of those was a Trek fan--I don't know very many such fans away from this site).

No one asked me about it. At all. I mean, you know it's sad when you are going to a SoCal community college and no one knows there is even a new Star Trek movie out, or even cares. Even the geeky people made fun of me for being a trekkie, and that was at a time when Star Trek was supposed to have been revitalized. :(

Didn't stop me from loving the hell outta that movie, though...
