Honestly it's a question that's been burning in the back of my mind more than what's up with Riker being mad at Picard, or did Vadic attend Kamar-Taj. My first thought is that it was some kind of plant-based steak. But then again, the steak was probably replicated and therefore could be meat based. Maybe it was some kind of alien steak, or even better, Romulan-ale infused meat.
