What was Palpatine's original plan for Naboo?

Unless one is very gifted, a force sensitive type tends to not know what to do to use the Force. They might have it and display some traits, but they have no skills per say. A lot of the powers in the force is believing you can do stuff that normal life tells you is impossible. One of the reasons they take children is so they don't have preconceived notions about how the world is so they can learn the Force without such restraints on their minds. Luke had issues with that while training under Yoda, that was where the "Do or Do not, there is no try" comes from. It is a matter of believe. You do or you don't. Trying implies you don't believe you can or have doubt, therefore you don't. So force sensitive in the wild that have no teacher or do not witness the Force in action are less likely to gain powers because they are less likely to believe such things are possible.

Anakin's problem is that he likes the power his has and won't willing give it up. Especially after losing his mother. So while he could just walk away, live with Padme openly, even volunteer to fight for the Republic, he would not be a Jedi and had reduced access to the Temple and what knowledge is inside.
Ultimately Yoda was right in TPM that Anakin was too old to be trained. Even if they had taken his mother to Coruscant or Naboo or whatever, Darth Sidious would have had her assassinated or something like that. Leaving her in slavery was bonkers (if not the whole slavery angle to begin with - better to have her a regular employee of Watto or something like that - get married to Lars at the end of Ep 1. If Anakin was 14-15 instead of 9, Owen trying to convince him the Republic is too corrupted and to stay as a moisture farmer would make his dialogue in ANH make much more sense, especially if he repeats the offer in Attack of the Clones).

In any case, that anxiety is going to be transposed onto Padme and even if she survives, to the children. Anakin never learned to let go and never would.

It makes sense as is.

Yeah, that would make more sense. I don't like how AOTC handled the Anakin/Owen relationship. Brief and casual but Owen has a whole lie constructed of this man he barely knows.

That part was never said.

Luke: No, my father didn't fight in the Clone Wars. He was a navigator on a spice freighter.
Ben Obi-Wan Kenobi: That's what your Uncle told you. He didn't hold with your father's ideals; he felt he should've stayed here and not gotten involved.
Luke Skywalker: You fought in the Clone Wars?
Ben Obi-Wan Kenobi: Yes. I was once a Jedi knight, the same as your father.

"Your father wanted you to have this when you were old enough, but your Uncle wouldn't allow it. He feared you might follow old Obi-Wan on some damn fool idealistic crusade like your father did."

You just changed characters. I thought we were talking about Owen.

"Anakin being spice freighter pilot who decided to sign up with Obi-Wan on a lark, rather than stay at the old homestead."

The part after "spice freighter pilot" ( actually navigator ) wasn't told by Owen to Luke. In fact, as far as Luke knew, Anakin didn't fight in the Clone Wars at all. Owen didn't say anything to Luke about Anakin signing up with Obi-Wan, "on a lark" or for any other reason. Luke had never even heard the name Obi-Wan!

Obi-Wan literally says "That's what your uncle told you."

So, someone decides to lie all over the place, and Owen opts to have this convoluted explanation.

Yes, he told him Anakin was a navigator on a spice freighter. He didn't tell him anything about running off with Obi-Wan to be a Jedi, as Luke hadn't even heard of Obi-Wan and insisted that his father didn't fight in the war.

What's particularly convoluted about "navigator on a spice freighter"? Who's the someone who decides to lie all over the place?

So how does Obi-Wan know Anakin didn't hold the same ideals?

Obi-Wan spins a pretty convincing yarn then of Owen's thoughts.

I don't recall Yoda saying that Anakin was too old. That was Mace Windu. But Yoda was right when he said "I sense much fear in you." Also "Great danger I feel in his training." Fear of losing Padme is what led him to the dark side. (as well as his lust for power)

The whole speech that Obi Wan gave to Luke in ANH doesn't make any sense at all after the prequals. Anakin didn't follow Obi wan on an "idealistic crusade." He was training to be a jedi and then the clone wars happened. Owen wasn't Anakin's brother so he wasn't Luke's uncle either. Brothers don't marry their sisters so Beru wouldn't be Luke's aunt. Couple this with Ben lying about how Anakin died and it really makes Obi-wan out to be a bad mentor.

When you look back on it, its astonishing, even with all of Lucas's revisionist changes to the OT, how many inconsistencies there are between these two trilogies.

And this is why the Prequels drive me nuts. Obi-Wan becomes the biggest manipulator and liar.
To be fair, he was already made into a liar by Empire way back in 1980.
Owen wasn't Anakin's brother so he wasn't Luke's uncle either.
Owen was Anakin's mother's husband's kid. Ehh, whatever.
Anakin didn't follow Obi wan on an "idealistic crusade."
Some might say being a Jedi is in itself an idealistic crusade.
