What very small plot (or plot detail) would make for an interesting Star Trek story?

Mr. Phraust

Lieutenant Commander
Red Shirt
There are some things in Star Trek that go on that would seem to have HUGE impact, but are suddenly never brought up again. Life changing technologies that are never realized, or characters who were just, let loose, into the Star Trek universe, never to be heard from again, or even a small element of a plot that the episode just brushed off as if nothing, but left you going "Hey what a second!" What story element like this has always left you saying "I would love to explore that more!"?

Some of the big ones that come to mind...

Dyson Sphere.
"Miri" Perfect copy of Earth
Space Rome

I wrote a fan fic years ago about Nazi World developing warp and getting out into space, somewhat mirroring the NX-01 voyage, but through the lens of... Nazi's.

I've always been first on the boat for a BY ANY OTHER NAME sequel even if Rojan is not held culpable for his terminal blocking. There are certain aspects of their technology that were also brushed over......how they created their human body equivalents, for example. It's ironic that one way or another they take human form while withholding that privilege for most of the humans.

I would also have enjoyed seeing Alexander from PLATO'S STEPCHILDREN continue as a semi-regular. He would have fit in just as well on many of the other shows.

The million dollar question is that would Peter Dinklage consider playing this iconic part.

There are so many 'gamechanging' technologies that are never seen again....

To give just an example, take Unnatural Selection from TNG. When it's possible to use the transporter to revert someone's medical condition to a previous state (with the help of a single cell in a hair follicle), I wonder whether it would be possible to use that technology for periodic rejuvenation by storing cells of everybody.

Then again that's not necessarily an angle I would love to explore from a narrative point of view.

I still wonder about that soliton wave technology from late TNG (New Ground).

If they manage to stabilise it, they have a new form of transport. If they don't, I'd say they have a new way of generating tremendous amounts of energy, and it's only a matter of channeling it properly.

The aliens from "Conspiracy". Where did they come from? Why aren't they back yet, considering how far they got up the Starfleet chain? And are there any still in Starfleet, biding their time?

The aliens from "Schisms". LOVE that episode, and it would have been great to have a followup. Did they experiment on other crews? Other worlds?

The Vissians from "COGENITOR"... why haven't we seen them again in the current era? Was that first contact with humans disastrous enough for them to never bother with humans or the Federation? They were very, very advanced at the time of ENT, and were quite peaceful. (Which was a lucky thing for the Enterprise, actually.)

How many other Iconian gateways are out there?

To me, it's a very large plot hole--the fate of Captain Benjamin Sisko. I know books and comics brought him back for non-canon stories, but onscreen he's still "missing." Brooks doesn't even have to reprise the role, a quick throwaway line in passing dialogue in either PIC or LD would have been sufficient to tell us he had returned and just left it at that.

"Admiral Sisko sends his regards, Jean-Luc..."
or
"I tell you, Boimler, Ambassador Sisko throws one hell of a party..."

Sisko's catering service.

Why waste a potential huge future wank for an unsatisfying line of dialogue?
