Very big WTF moment at the Scream 2009 awards:
William Frakkin' Shatner accepted Star Trek's Ultimate Scream Award (=Best Movie of the Year)... they must be on drugs!!:cardie:

In another blow to basement dwelling fanboys, J.J. Abrams won Best Director!:techman:

EDIT: FatShat was doing a funny bit, but he had no business representing ST09. Overall it was a great awards show... the least boring of the year's award shows.

Yeah, he must not be too miffed at them. Maybe it's true he's in the next movie. How many best-movie awards have we won?

Surprised no one has any thoughts about the deleted scene they showed. Another reason Paramount probably didn't want it posted online.

It was reported by TrekToday here, a week or so back.

I saw it mentioned in another thread, but I wasn't watching, myself, and so haven't seen it yet.

Which deleted Scene was it? I figure they'd be widespread online by now considering the DVD is released in a fair few countries already.

Nero being interrogated by the Klingons, then breaking free and releasing Ayel.

Hm, I actually hadn't heard about this... that is very odd. Shatner had nothing to do with the movie, so I agree, he really shouldn't be accepting an award for it.

Yeah, he made sure to mention how he hadn't seen the movie, which was followed by a lot of silence and some snickering.

I'm pretty sure that this was a stunt cooked up by Abrams with Shatner. Abrams has been quoted as saying that they talk, and this, posted a few days ago in another thread and quoted here in part, really makes it sound like it was planned in advance:
[...]

Shatner actually accepted an award for the new film a couple of nights ago at "Spike Scream Awards" a joke that Abrams and Co. were clearly in on.

"The biggest award of the night was the "Ultimate Scream" and Star Trek was up against some stiff competition. Actor Morgan Freemen presented the award and after he announced Star Trek had won, the crowd got a surprise when William Shatner stepped onto the stage to accept the award. After taking the award, Shatner stated (via AP):

"J.J., I’ll handle this," Shatner said to J.J. Abrams, seated in the audience, who also won best director and best sci-fi movie for "Star Trek."

"This movie was big," Shatner said. "Imagine how big it could have been with me in it? … I’ll be waiting for your call."

[...]

It was obvious that it had been a planned stunt, but as others have agreed: Shat had nothing to do with the movie, admitted he has not watched it;therefore, there is absolutely no reason for him to be accepting the award. Especially since J.J. Abrams was in the audience, having accepted the Best Director trophy that night.
**Last night was the first time I saw the program. So I believe this thread is valid.**

Abrams was clearly in on the joke. Perhaps this is a preview of the next film. Maybe the rumors of Shatner's return http://www.stuff.co.nz/entertainment/film/2986590/William-Shatner-set-to-be-beamed-up are correct?

This.
In a way, this provides a coda to Shatner's running "I'm not involved and nobody's ever asked me to be" campaign of the last couple of years. He's sort of unofficially part of the gang, now, regardless of what happens (or doesn't happen) with the next movie.

Last night was the first time anyone saw it, as far as I know. I was just saying that the news about Shatner accepting the award wasn't much of a secret, having been leaked well in advance of the broadcast.
