What Stories?

Picture the scene. TOS is getting a Reboot, or, the Big Screen crew are doing the series, and to satisfy the trekkie intelligentsia they're going full pelt on the social commentary, the allegory, the parables and morality plays that are so revered in TOS. They are cutting edge and taking risks. They will talk about this series in years to come with the same reverance as TOS before it.

So. What stories will they tell? What are todays taboo subjects that should be handled discretely?

What would it take for a new series, aesthetics aside, to recapture the heart of trek?

Third World Debt?
Childhood Obesity?
Teen Pregnancies?
Environmental Change?
Homosexuality?
Extremism?
Identity Theft?
Civil Rights?

Many of the complaints of the new film are that it wasn't deep enough, just want to explore this claim and collect some ideas. What should the trek audience be thinking about?
