What Star Trek is all about?

Having a discussion in other topics is leading me to ask myself, just "What is Star Trek all about"? from one mans vision or something else.
We all have our own perception of it is what I seem to gather from various posts and posters.
I seem to side on the Gene Roddenberry idea in as much from all and any interviews I have seen him in. THIS is not about slamming what kind of man he was, or about his lifestyle.
OK, lets have at it.... ;)

It's a sci-fi franchise with a generally optimistic and sometimes utopian view of the future. Also, entertaining and somewhat iconic.

It's about people. People coming together to work for a better tomorrow.

- Sorry, was reading political ad copy last night.

Whining about canon and continuity. And lots of "my favourite Trek's great, your favourite Trek sucks" -type arguments.

It's about five series, eleven movies, several hundred novels, many fan films, and a whole bunch of comics, long.

The final triumph of liberal, progressive values... IN SPACE!

Correctamundo. That is, if the question is "what is Star Trek about that is unique to Star Trek?" Which of course is the interesting way to phrase the question, that results in something other than obviousness and babble.

It's about the human condition, braving the unknown, teamwork, and moving to a better future even if things seem dark now.

It's also about worshipping Roddenberry and completely ignoring the significance of people like Gene Coon and D.C. Fontana and all the good that Berman did for Star Trek.
