I'm a Niner and massive Cardassian fan who's rather suspicious of the so-called utopia and kind of "enjoyed" seeing the Federation get a bloody nose.

I was not like that at all when I was younger--I was a huge TNG fan then. But I think the idealism in me died and I am still left with a love for the imagination behind Star Trek...and a disjoint with its ideals (or at least believing that if ever accomplished, there will be a serious dark underside).

This sums it up WONDERFULLY, this interchange between Garak and Bashir, how I started and how I became...

I'm still quite the idealist but I like my Sci- Fi dark, which is why I'm a massive NBSG fan!
And I've always seen the UFP as an over idealised USA with none of the complexes that make the real thing so interesting but with all the causal arrogance of those who would assume that they are the elect.

I tend to watch more TNG, ENT and DS9, but they are all equal and Trek to me.
