What Should Happen in Bond 23? [Spoilers]

Where should the story arc go after Quantum of Solace tied up most of the loose ends begun in Casino Royale? MI6 has captured an important Quantum operative alive, while Bond took photos of Quantum's inner circle, but how would that help against Quantum itself, a global syndicate that is far more strategically dangerous than M first anticipated?

Will Bond or MI6 in general be subjected to concentrated reprisals like in From Russia in Love, or will they try to foil a world threatening plot hatched by Quantum similar to Thunderball's?

Quantum is a very quiet, wheels within wheels syndicate who mostly uses proxies (whether organized crime, terrorists or rogue regimes) to do their dirty work. They do this so they can make money, SPECTRE wants to make money as well, but trying to start WWIII on behalf of Red China would be detrimental to carrying on making money.

Quantum wants to exploit the world rather than destroy it, so although they could feasibly get more tactically aggressive by decapitating Britain's government they're likely not exterminationists like Stromberg or Drax (as far as we can tell).

And as much as I miss the Ken Adam sets from the 60s and 70s, I don't want a Quantum volcano lair, but instead Quantum operating out of a lair similar to MI6's operations centre but located within or beneath a corporate front (maybe a hotel/casino/leisure chain like Mr. Linderman's organization from Heroes?).

They used up all of Casino Royale's baggage except for Mr. White, who isn't all that interesting.

It shouldn't- there should be a standalone with DC going on his first mission as the Bond we know and love (CR and QoS having been about making him that character), which is pretty much what Craig has - well, not *said*, but consistently implied - we're going to get next time.

Oh, they'll be back - but I suspect they'll save them as a main part until Bond 24.

I reckon we'll get Q and/or Moneypenny, there will be a stand alone villain with a somewhat convoltuted plan...in the end I'll imagine the villain will be tied to Quantum, but I don't expect Quantum to be made a huge deal of...just yet...

I partially agree, Dominic Greene was just an oil slick fixer and would've worked better as a secondary henchman along the lines of Mr. Osato, and Greene served a similar role to Mr. Osato in the Quantum syndicate. Just a cog in a bigger, deadlier machine, which was why I wasn't fussed with Greene being mostly unremarkable.

I kinda of want the next plot to be more about a race between Quantum and MI6 over a top secret McGuffin located in Red China.

So you want an invisible car, Bond in space fighting with laser guns, scenery-chewing mustache-twirling villains, lots and lots of jokes and comedy sketches, yet another of the endless threats-to-destroy-the-world, lots of stunt casting, big fight scenes with very obvious stunt doubles and quips and jokes between punches, and a plot that's exactly the same as 15 or so of the previous movies?

Check.

Personally I'd rather see a movie that actually captures the spirit of Ian Fleming's literary 007 character and is a modern espionage thriller, like we saw with Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace, rather than yet another tired, dated action-comedy like Die Another Day, The World Is Not Enough, and, well, most of the rest of the previous Bond movies.

Well since you trotted all the worst aspects to bolster your point as if each was featured in every Bond movie heavily.
Moonraker, Die Another Day and a few others did over do it.

However, a good Bond movie that is still Bond is evident in Thunderball, Goldfinger, On Her Majesty's Secret Service, The Spy Who Loved Me, and Goldeneye.

Sadly the literary Bond to which you want made it to screen as Jason Bourne. Which are fine movies with their own identity(no pun intended) and cinematic Bond has its own identity which the best of, imo, I listed.
You should be out petitioning Damon and Greengrass for more Bourne.

You make some good points, of course. I probably should have noted that I'm a huge Bond fan, and I even enjoy the silly over-the-top movies like Moonraker and Diamonds Are Forever. So don't think that I'm trashing the series overall - there's something I find to enjoy about every one of them, even the stinkers like Die Another Day. I own the entire series on DVD.

Still, I found CR and QoS to be very refreshing changes after decades of a formula that had, quite frankly, gotten stale. The latter Brosnan movies, in particular, had gotten more comical than the Austin Powers movies in a lot of ways. I've read that Brosnan kept pushing the producers to make the movies more serious and give them a harder edge, but sadly, they didn't take his advice.

So if it took inspiration from the success of the Bourne movies to do it, well then I'm glad the Bond producers were willing to go in that direction.

Well Fleming Bond and Ludlum Bourne both have movies that use the book titles and throw out most of the book, and the people who always bitch and moan about not being true to the source material selectively choose to ignore it with the two of them.
