What podcasts do you download? What do you recommend to me?

I just bought my first iPod, a Nano. Yes, I'm 23 and this is my first iPod. Soon I'll even be getting indoor plumbing and electricity in my house, followed by a polio vaccine.

I'm not a big music guy, but I love documentaries and current events shows. So far, I've subscribed to the following podcasts:
  • The Age of Persuasion, on CBC. It's a documentary show that talks about advertising and the art of persuasion, with a humourous twist. Great show
  • The Current, also CBC. A current events show (duh). Also very good.
  • As it Happens, CBC. Another current events show. Very good interviews with interesting people.
  • C'est la Vie, CBC. It's about French-speaking Canada and the French language.
  • Dispatches, CBC. Another current events show, focusing on international current events.
  • The House, CBC, about Canadian politics
  • NPR's Car Talk. I haven't listened to this one yet but it's been suggested to me by my mom.
  • Power & Politics, CBC. Another Canadian politics show
  • Quirks and Quarks, CBC. A science show. Think Popular Science on radio.
  • Wiretap, CBC. A very odd but very funny and smart comedy program.

What about you guys? I'm curious about the listening habits of my fellow TBBSers. Also, I'm looking for suggestions on more podcasts I should subscribe to.

SModcast - Kevin Smith's podcast which covers pretty much anything.
TWiT - This Week in Tech is done by Leo Laporte from TechTV (which is what G4 used to be when it was good and actually was informative)

If you like Current Events, than Wait Wait...Don't Tell Me is a great podcast to download. It's done from NPR, Peter Segal is a great host, and it's fun and witty every week. In fact that last two weeks have been awesome and hilarious.

Just noticed you listed Car Talk. Because you were looking for current event stuff, I didn't recommend it, but CT is another podcast I love. Tom and Ray are hilarious, and you get some interesting information regarding cars each week. Also, even though I never get it, I love the weekly puzzler. Kind of something to think about as the week goes on.

Was just about to post

Hello there,

I was wandering if anyone can recommend any good Star Trek podcasts or Sci Fi podcasts in general.

So far I listen to Trekcast and Make it so but have worked my way through most of them so am looking for more to listen to at work.

BTW I also listen to Glory Glory Leeds but due to our diminishing form since Christmas time its not the best listen lately.

Regards.

Seems weird quoting myself but meh.

Anyone else know any decent podcasts.

I listen to almost all the podcasts from the TwiT network, they are all great.

I download about 30 a week. Highlights - The Basketball Jones (NBA), The Dave Gorman Podcast, Desert Island Discs, It's Up For Grabs Now (Arsenal podcast with Alan Davies), Loading Ready Run/LRRCast, TheGame (Football).

My advice is to rotate regularly. If you aren't listening to or enjoying something, change it for a new one. There are plenty of good and new podcasts all the time.

I have a very short commute, and can only really listen to background music here at work, but I download Matt Darey's Nocturnal show podcasts. A little over an hour of trance/dance/techno, etc.

If you're looking for a good, fan-produced Trek audio drama, look no further than DarkerProjects.com's "The Section 31 Files."

It's not an easy show to get in to ... the first episode is very meandering but if you stick through it, the through-line of the plot and characterizations are brilliantly executed and portrayed.

Planetary Radio, from The Planetary Society.

A weekly 30 minute show about outer space shit. News, interviews, good stuff, lots of fun.

I listen to Podrunner on my MP3 player because they offer lots of great music mixes for workouts and running.

Oh, and another recommendation for SModcast.
