Assuming we're moving past the 24th century, what new hand held devices / gadgets / weapons do you want to see regular StarFleet crew start using or encountering?

A substantially upgraded combadge with additional miniaturized tricorder and holo-emitter functions. Eliminates the need to carry actual tricorders. To engage tricorder mode, all one has to do is tap their combadge and say "tricorder on," which will immediately create an adjustable holographic interface/display field around the wearer. "Tricorder off," returns the combadge to its default communications mode.

Since there are control levers on many sides faces of these fidget devices, I can see something like an Elder Thing or some other tentacle user controlling many different sides at once.

It is all us bipeds can do with one brain to handle a remote with buttons only on one side.

Starfleet can simply have these PROMETHEUS type flooting spheres do scans, relay comms, etc.
