What is your LEAST favorite ship?

I'll have to mention the Scimitar. I've seen Nemesis countless times, but I still don't know what the Scimitar looks like. A huge piece of crap.

After that, I'll give dishonorable mention to the Narada.

After the Oberth-class ship, I never cared for the Merchantman ship from TSFS, which got reused as other cargo ships throughout TNG and DS9 in later years.

I really disliked the Romulan ships from TNG. Big and green with a huge weird space in the middle from the closed wrapped "wings". They were like Pelicans glued to a sled. Considering how cool their ships were in TOS it was a shock to see these large, colorless, yucks soilin' up my Trek. They never really did anything but sit and stare at the Ent-D. And they never changed... never ever changed.

From that point on all Romulan ships were over designed garbage, from TNG, to Nemesis, to Nero. Altough I will say, Nero's ship was truly scary. And the Romulans with all their mystery and oddness had to have scary ships that you just can't quite figure out. But the albatrosses from TNG were ugly and never intimidating.

I resent this. The design has panache and originality. And the Valdores in Nemesis (the only redeeming factor in my eyes) take that one further.

While I think the TNG Warbirds were indeed original and bombastic (Gotta love Romulans, for an empire of conspirators, they're such drama queens!), I think the Valdores were a step back. They took the TNG Warbird and chopped off the top half, and made it more conventional. How many ships from how many space-faring nations have wings, a fuselage, and wing-tipped cannons? It's basically a sleeker Klingon Bird of Prey.

In terms of movie designs, I never cared for the Romulan designs in NEM, both the Scimitar and the Valdore.

But across the whole franchise, the overall shape of the Enterprise or NX class is by far my least favorite design.

Not talking about the details (Doug Drexler did an amazing job!), but the general design decision to base the shape on a 24th century class of ships.

(On the other hand, the Akira class is one of my favorite designs.)

For me, it's a tie between the Scimitar from Nemesis and the Son'a ships from Insurrection. Bleh.

Original and bombastic does not always translate as good. And in fact, the Romulans design ethic to make their ships gigantic and bizarre is an attempt to overcompensate of their insecurities and xenophopia. Which is why most Romulan ships are of a perfect design in the Trek universe for the race they represent... no matter how ugly.
