What is in the Galaxy class neck?

Mage

Vice Admiral

Was watching this video on the Nebula class, and ofcourse the Galaxy class is mentioned. And it suddenly hit me...
The saucer has living quarters, medical facilities, labs and what not. The engineering section houses the reactors, fuel, everything needed to make the ship go.

Then I realized, the neck is a lot thicker than for example the Connie. And has a LOT of windows. So, what's in the neck?

There would seem to be an implication that at least the senior officers probably have two sets of quarters...one in the saucer section as established, and one in the stardrive section for when the saucer's detached. I can't imagine the designers assuming the saucer would only be separated for less than 24 hours.

There's certainly precedent for that on U.S. Navy ships. I've toured museum ships with small staterooms for the CO, adjacent to the bridge.

Sure, but you can't bury a lucky loonie at centre ice on a holo-rink and then expect it to be there later.

If they're living quarters though, would they feature polarized windows or always be subject to the warm red glow from the nacelles? We saw that was a problem for certain crew quarters on the Cerritos.

I think the most obvious things to place there would be living quarters and a secondary sickbay, the star drive still has to function as an independent ship.

The blueprints reflect this. Also in TNG "The Arsenal of Freedom", the stardrive beams everyone up at the end of the episode and an injured Dr. Crusher is stated to be recovering in sickbay, so they absolutely have one. Who knows how nice it is though, as this is the first season of TNG and the sickbay proper is still using the conference room windows as a wall, with carpet draped over the holes. :P

crew quarters for the engineers, since you want them close to the engine incase of emergency, a sickbay for the many accidents in engineering, spare bunks for saucer separation, the battle bridge, a armory, and a mess hall because people have to eat
