What if StormTroopers were accurate shots?

Hilarious, if Storm Troopers were accurate.

The fine folks at Corridor Digital shows us what happens when you invest in the "Eye Care" of your soldiers.

Right...seemed pretty effective in the opening of STAR WARS.

This.

That entire "Stormtroopers are bad shots" joke or actually used in some fan analysis has never held water since the troopers--as you point out--were effective..no, downright devastating in the opening of Star Wars, not to mention how they did not miss Owen, Beru or the Jawas.

Jump to TESB, and we can hear the Rebel's message "Imperial troops have entered the base" go to static on the intercom--obviously because he was shot. 3PO was shot to pieces by troopers. In ROTJ, Leia was shot by a Stormtrooper, so even heroes are not immune to their accuracy with a blaster.

What everyone seems to forget is that the Stormtroopers on the Death Star in ANH were intentionally missing so that our heroes could make it back to the Falcon and then fly off to the Rebel base, at which time the Empire would know the location of the Rebel base.

But I guess that doesn't make for amusing memes.

Or bad jokes.

I generally like the Corridor Crew, but when it comes to some of the stuff they do like this, I just find it off-putting and tedious.

Also as a concept "lol Stormtroopers be terrible shots!" is about as played out as anything could possibly be. If they'd used an original, or at least creative idea as a jumping off point I might be more interested. Alas.

I always kind of felt that most stormtroopers were good shots, but a few aren't. All it takes is one failing to hit a farm boy from Tatooine to ruin their entire reputation.

I also think that stormtroopers really aren't used to people firing back at them. Stormtrooper armor is lightweight and not even remotely blaster-resistant. If a stormtrooper has to duck incoming fire, that may also affect their aim as well, IMO.

Very true. Stormtroopers are mostly for show, more a means of scaring an enemy rather than being an effective fighting force against a credible enemy,

Stormtrooper armor is incredibly restrictive, as proven in the real world incident a couple years ago where police were called to deal with a "masked individual armed with a rifle" which was in fact a fan in stormtrooper cosplay. When the responding cops arrived on the scene, they pulled their own guns and yelled at her to drop her weapon and lie on the ground. While she did immediately drop her (toy) rifle, she couldn't lie on the ground because the stormtrooper armor doesn't allow one to easily do that. Though the responding cops didn't care and ended up beating her into submission even while she was very visibly attempting to comply but having obvious difficulties doing so.

The troopers on the Death Star were undoubtedly ordered to shoot just poorly enough to not kill the rebels while making them think they were really fighting their way back to their ship. And then only a handful of fighters are sent after the Falcon, and Han and Luke get the thrill of dogfighting and thinking they fought their way out of that, too. Once everything settles down and they are no longer in the heat of the moment, Leia recognizes 'the ease of their escape.'

Anyway, for better or worse, stormtroopers' reputation as being bad shots has been 'cannnnnnnnnnonized' in-universe in The Mandalorian (even if the intent was really humorous 'lampshading' or an in-joke for the audience's amusement).

So amusing I rolled my eyes and turned the episode off.

Also, Migs as an Imperial Army member vs. a stormtrooper is about as accurate as a US service members bragging about their accomplishments to another branch. Lots of loudness and hot air.

Rebels also included a joke about stormtroopers' lack of marksmanship, sort of. When disguised in stormtrooper armor, Rex gets into a firefight, during which he's unable to hit a target. Rex complains the helmet makes it impossible to see anything, takes the helmet off and is instantly able to hit his targets accurately.

The 1977 movie gets away with one scene because the goodies were supposed to escape and have it look convincing. However, every other movie - including other scenes in the 1977 one - promptly forget this. It's also a trope still used to this day... at least when a writer lets computer-guided systems fail because the plot demands it, you know they're the hackiest hack of all time. People in suits running across uneven terrain have it difficult enough in chasing prey and determining which direction they'll turn to (if any), but a computer system will easily determine range and speed and *click* fast than you can say "zing". Unless the sensor fails at just the wrong moment or any other reason that takes a lot to pull off with any semblance of narrative sincerity...

Which is a meta joke as Luke's "I can't see a thing in this helmet" line in the original film was reportedly adlibbed due to limited visibility.
