What if RDM did a Batman TV Series?

Anytime anyone talks about a Batman live-action TV series, horrified flashbacks of the 1960's camp-a-thon churn from the dark abyss where most of us have tried to flush them too. At the same time, concerns over a "Smallville-esque" Batman show stir as well, neither option in the least bit palatable to any true Bat fan, as the Dark Knight is, just that, DARK...

So it occured to me; who is the one tv producer we know for a certain fact can do dark and gritty?

Can we say, Ron Moore?

I know it's a totally outlandish never-going-to-happen idea, for a multitude of reasons, not the least of which is RDM would never want to be tied down like WB would insist he be, and WB is invested firmly in the films...

That said, say what you will about RDM: you have to admit he could capture the dark and gritty feel of Gotham better than any other tv guy out there! :lol:
 
As good as "Battlestar Galactica" was, there ARE other producers out there equally capable of doing such things.
 
I would say that RDM's imaginative talents are wasted on a pre-existing and well developed property like Batman, which comes with plenty of baggage and canon that fans will insist be adhered to.

Hey how about a female Batman? How about a Batman who is a wuss who only pretends to be badass, or is a psycho worse than the Joker and has got everyone fooled*?

If that stuff would be unworkable, then that just shows that Batman is too much of a straightjacket for a truly creative mind. Better for him to take something like BSG that needs to be transformed utterly, or just come up with something totally new that comes with zero baggage.

*The wildly popular masked vigilante who is only apparently a hero and is in fact a lunatic who scoffs at the ignorant, easily-fooled masses and commits cold-blooded murder under the guise of defending the public order might be right up RDM's ally. Just don't call him Batman unless you want trouble that will make Languatron and his ilk look like pussycats by comparison. :D
 
Since the movies are covering the origin and "early years" ground so well, Ron Moore would probably start Batman after that. He'd want to keep as much of Batman as possible yet he wouldn't want Batman running around with a "golly! gee whiz!" kid.

The series would probably start off with Batman solo and Dick Grayson in college. Robin's an adult, and around when the story needs it, but otherwise he's out of sight and out of mind. The same approach used in TAS and the '70s comics.

Batman works with Gordon but Gordon doesn't acknowledge that he works with Batman, so no Bat-Signal.

For the sake of drama, and to not have it all be about Bruce Wayne, a relationship develops between Dick Grayson and Barbara Gordon that turns into love triangle.

Dick and Bruce have a falling out, and then Batman brings in street-punk Jason Todd who, in this version, would make the average "troubled teen" look like a perfect angel. Then he dies Batman goes crazy, and things diverge from the comics.

You could even include Barbara getting shot.

A lot of what you could do with this type of Batman series is already there in the comics. Outside of execution, not much would have to change. Just use the late-'80s comics as an inspiration.
 
Maybe Ron Moore would first start things off with a four-hour mini-series based on Batman like he first started off the Battlestar Galactica show with a four-hour miniseries. The story in the miniseries would have its beginning, middle, and end but would leave a few threads hanging at the end for the series to possibly pick up if the executives decide to lean in that direction.
If the executives do decide to lean in that direction, the Batman TV show would pick up right where the miniseries left off and go from there.
If Ron Moore did a Batman TV series, he would explore the grittiness of Gotham City, the darkness in Bruce Wayne born out of his parents' tragedy, the consequences and emotional cost of being a hero like Batman, and the weight on those fighting to keep Gotham from falling apart but by slightly different means than Batman's like James Gordon and Harvey Dent.
 
As long as a Batman series isn't on the CW or anywhere near the Smallville people, there's a chance for it.

If Ron Moore did a Batman show, Bruce Wayne would have religious visions and the United States would be involved in a war that includes the invasion of North America.

You want an interesting Batman show, put it on HBO and have George Pelecanos (The Wire) produce it. Make it as much about Jim Gordon and the corrupt Gotham police force as about the vigilante, take down Bruce Wayne's fortune to reasonable proportions and keep him within the laws of physics (more or less the way he's been portrayed in Nolan's movies), while also making it clear that Batman is but one of many ways he operates within Gotham. Use themes of rule of law versus vigilante justice, democracy versus the will of powerful men and how to combat corruption without becoming corrupt yourself. Go ahead and have over the top psychotic villains from time to time but mostly keep it to a true crime (though with a criminal underworld that controls most of the city) vibe.
 
So many damn things to say...but I've to be careful not to troll here. Personally I think all these threads should be binned to the battlestar subforum so they don't spam up the main forum like those Whedonesque zombies did with Dollhouse topics

Let me put things straight. I used to love the battlestar re-make, I thought the acting was much better, I thought the show was realistic, fresh and original however my love for it died after 2 seasons and I now dislike the show with a passion. I have even less respect for its hardcore fans who defaced my webpages and spammed and trolled across half the internet.
What lost me was the show having no plan and just being shocking for the sake of being shocking.

There was one episode around Season 2 where they turned the babies into prostitutes and as sick as that sounds, they pushed it even further you had an entire spaceship full of child molestors who would pay money to do things to these children. Only one character was held accountable and executed. It wasn't graphic or anything but you could see the kind of BS Eick and RDM were trying to sell. I for one was starting to think I'm done with this over-rated show

If RDM and Eick did Batman

All the males would be emasulated or castrated. Batman would be a big pansy big girls blowse, he would try taking on the criminal under world with all his toys and batplane but each and every time Batman would fail and instead Batgirl or Hawkgirl would have to rescue his ass.

Batman would show his love for Vicki Vale by getting into a boxing ring and beating the shit out of her

McCain or Obama would be up for election in Gotham, the city would also have political arguments over abortion and suicide bombers

The Bulter Alfred would be killed off for the sake of soap opera shock jockery, everyone morns his loss. But by the end of season his death would be even more nihilistic Alfred would return as a robot...there would be 12 robot copies and they would have "A Plan"

No Blacks, whatever actors of African heriatge are killed off after 20 episodes.

Mid season RDM claims he's bigger than Spielberg and Michelangelo Buonarroti. The man would have arguements with cast and crew...when he digs himself into a hole, he would accuse Berman, Braga of hating Bruce Wayne or accuse other crew members of bullshitting the audience

Bruce Wayne acusses Wonder Woman of conspiraing with the enemy....or the 12 cyborg copies of Alfred with a plan...take your pick. Batman uses WW's lasso on her, then rapes and tortures her until he gets any kind of worthless info from her...bascially more shock jockery

Gays, Lesbos, Threesomes whatever. Maybe Batman is also humping Robin

Batman would have never gotten over the trauma of his parents getting killed, he would be a total alcoholic and he would be addicted to crack cocaine

The series would be packed with freemason and creationist BS
by the end it finishes with Batman going tribal...going back to the woods and wiping his butt with a bunch of leaves

I can agree that an RDM Batman would probably suck, all things being equal, for a wide variety of reasons.

There are somethings that just don't fit that style at all.

Batma can be dark, yes, but a different type of dark.

And really, they'd need to have a young Robin, portrayed realistically.
 
WB would never approve it I'm afraid. As I said in the other thread on a Batman series a few days ago the WB movie division has an embargo on Batman television stories. The only TV adventures of The Dark Knight they'll allow to be made are cartoon based.

why can't it be Bruce and Barbara and Dick can't find out?

After we've seen that storyline with Batman Beyond so it's not like it's being pulled out of someone's arse.
 
^ Yep, that was in the cartoon too. It was also somewhat implied in Birds of Prey (the TV Show from early 2000s).
