What happened to MU MACOs? (Possible Disco Spoilers)

Yeah, I know the MACOs are technically an Enterprise thing, but since this discussion draws on info from Beyond and even touches on Disco a bit, I figured I'd post this here.

Anyway, we know from Beyond that in the Kelvin Timeline and presumably the Prime Universe as well, the MACOs were disbanded when the Federation was founded and its personnel were absorbed into Starfleet, thus explaining why we never see MACOs in any of the other Star Treks.

But what about in the Mirror Universe? We know MACOs were around in the 22nd century, in IAMD Reed and Mayweather are MACOs and indeed the NX-01 doesn't seem to have a Starfleet Security contingent on board, all security is handled by the MACOs. But by Mirror, Mirror there were no MACOs on board the ISS Enterprise, with Sulu and the rest of its security officers being Starfleet Security. Likewise, no MACOs were seen at all in Disco's recent MU storyline.

Thing is, the Mirror Universe didn't have anything significant happen in the time in between Enterprise and Disco/TOS that should have resulted in the MACOs being disbanded. There was no Federation there, and its closest analogue in the MU, the Terran Empire was already existing as an interstellar force in Enterprise. So what happened in the MU that made the Terran Empire decide it no longer needed or wanted the MACOs?

Sato may have wanted to consolidate power in her regime, by folding them into Starfleet. Or maybe Mirror Mayweather attempted a MACO-led coup against her, and this was punished by dismantling the entire organisation.
