What f*cking reincarnated royal bug did I step on to earn this?

Hubby's mom's house burned down last night.
She is elderly and on oxygen. She was unaware that the tubing was not in place under her nose and she lit a match to burn a thread off her robe. Poof!

He son in law suffered smoke inhalation and is in a Dallas hospital. She is in a hospital in Wichita Falls. Both are fine and should be out in a couple of days.

Thank heavens her daughter and son in law had started staying there to keep an eye on her.

Just another thing to add on top of all the rest. Hubby had gone to two emergency rooms a couple of weeks ago before he spent two nights in the hospital for an infection they never pinned down put took care of. He's fine but we don't need this now.

Anyone else, beside Bear/Fire having a really sh*tty few weeks?

The title of this thread and part of my new signature is my daughter's comment when I woke her up to tell her about the fire.

wait a minute. My sis in law used to require oxygen before her double lung transplant and the first rule is not to light any match or fire when you're using the oxygen, infact when you're got oxygen tanks you're advised to not even have the central heating on too high. Did nobody explain this rule? :cardie:
I'm glad they're ok and all but the no fire rule is a pretty blatant one especially when you're strapped to the oxygen mask.

That's one reason why an interesting idea for a bar nearby where I used to live, which served Oxygen to customers, closed quickly. (This was well before the Public Smoking ban hit Scotland, but even then it contravened health and safety laws.)

Still, bad luck to your mother in law and family, and to your hubby, and hope they both get well quickly, ancientone.

As for really bad few weeks, I've had a trying time of late, but I don't really want to go Public™ yet unitl I know what develops. :) It still pales in comparison to Bears's ordeal, though.

Thanks folks. Yes, she knew the drill re: fire but she is a tough ol' Texas bird for all of being 5 nothing and less pounds. She just does it her way.

One of the reasons there was someone there.

OMG that's horrible. I'd say losing a house to a fire and almost losing your in-laws in the process ranks this week up there with 'the shittiest weeks of your life'(TM).

I'm glad that your in-laws are okay. Hopefully, your mother-in-law has some sort of homeowner's insurance to help cover the replacement cost of everything lost.

As for your husband and his troubles, I hope the two trips to the ER are the end of it. You do not need to grapple with mystery illnesses on top of everything else. Sheesh.

Again, as devastating as this whole thing no doubt is, no kin perished and that's always something to be grateful for.

Glad everyone's okay. Saw some experiments they did on 'Mythbusters' with oxygen and flame, scary stuff.

My shitty time was last year, and I hope like hell it stays in last year.

That sounds like a bad idea even without supplemental oxygen in the room

Why did they allow her access to ignition sources!? She will be lucky if her homeowner's insurance company wants her continued business after they read the fire department's report. In some places the government might also want her placed in a professionally operated facility after such an incident.
