A wise Romulan.
Have you seen the preview for next week’s DSC? It’s entitled “Unification III.” I’m curious to see which way they’ll take it.
BTW, we’re you a DS9 fan? What did you think of the Romulans there? Is it just me or...like how between TOS and TNG the Klingons and Romulans switched identities, I think as DS9 went on, the Romulans and Cardassians switched identities. The Cardies became more Roman-like and the Romulans became more Nazi-like.
I am indeed a Ds9 fan - and actually enjoyed the RSE being looked at as an entity that meant something, versus the 'boogeyman' that lurked behind every corner such as seen in prior incarnations.
I think the Romulans were pretty stable up through DS9 - I never really saw them as Nazi-esque, as they were not bent on genocide
typically and were for the most part set on remaining left alone in the galaxy. I know that they were a little paranoid when it came to the Federation, however they, in my mind, presented a more interesting rival to the Federation, than the Klingons -
I never really considered the Romulans as switching with the Klingons, or any other entity to be honest. Just that the Klingons decided the Federation would make a better friend than foe in the long run. The Romulans, being more on par with the Federation technology wise, saw them more as a rival. Now, writing wise, they were written to be ultra-paranoid and extremely distrustful, however as smart as they truly were, I believe they would have went farther down the path of unification eventually and become a strong friend to the Federation.
I havent looked into the DSC episodes much - they are grating and not something I have been able to get into.
