What does it cost to remaster andEpisode ?

Bones1864

Admiral
What does it cost in American Dollars to remaster and episode of the Original Series ? Some eps must cost more to redo than others . Sound changes, clearing up the picture must all cost different amounts of money.
Will they be redone even further on the HD releases ?

Good question. I wonder how much money the studio is actually making off of the remastering...

Just a wild guess. Figure 10 guys making 100k each = $1 million peryear. Double that for overheads = $2 million. If they do 26 episodes in a year, it comes to $77,000 per episode. But, the team may be more or less than 10 (I suspect someone knows) and they may earn more or less than my estimate, and my overhead estimate may be totally wrong
: )

Again, just a wild guess.

Check the suggested retail price of the upcoming season 1 HD-DVD release and that might give you a clue.

Cheers

I seem to recall a figure of c. $200,000 per episode being tossed around back around the time the first remastered episode aired, but that was a long time ago, I've got no idea how to check it now and I may be completely misremembering it, anyway.

YMMV :)

Perhaps PowderedToastMan or someone will be able to point to a somewhat firmer number.

The price is also going to vary depending on how many shots need to be done and whether it's something they've done before. If it's a modification/re-use of an existing shot, like changing a planet color, it'll go faster and cheaper than creating a new shot from scratch. Re-used shots save them money to spend on the new ones.

And people complain that the remastered episodes aren't true to the original spirit of TOS... :D ;)
