I think it's an awesome and original concept to show that vampires aren't always unholy unsunburning demon stereotypes from hell but from another planet.
This concept was used in The Thing from Another World and Roger Corman's Not of this Earth in the 50's. Then we got Planet of the Vampires and Queen of Blood in the early 60's then we have Vampirella comics to the Salt Vampire. We got Colin Wilson's Space Vampires then we have Vorvon on Buck Rogers, Lifeforce, The Dark Crystal (Skeckis are vampires), Killer Klowns from Outer Space and Not of this Earth remake in the 70's and 80's.
One of the better ideas about where vampires come from is a pure Sci-fi one.
