What do all think of.....

Rowdy Roddy McDowall

Rear Admiral
Rear Admiral
..........Johnny Depp as Carl Kolchak in a theatrical NIGHT STALKER remake?

Yeesh. Should've called it ''What Do YOU all think of...''

Meh. We'll have to wait and see, I guess. If I were casting it, though, I'd have gone for someone less pretty and maybe a bit more "rumpled" looking---like Paul Giamatti or Philip Seymour Hoffman. The character should look a lot more average.

This.

Also, since this will be a Disney movie, I fear it will be more silly like the end of the TV show, and less genuinely creepy, like the TV movies.

But, it's too early to tell, and to bitch, so I'll wait and see.

Steve Buscemi could play a great Kolchak, if it's rumpled and not pretty you want.

Yeah him or Paul Giametti. Or Brad Dourf. The Creep Triplets. Someday they need to do a movie together. :D

As for Depp as Kolchak, that all depends on whether he'll eschew his usual acting approach: a) prissy weirdo or b) drunken lunatic. Neither would be appropriate in this case. Howbout we get c) for a change?

I think Depp should back up and let other actors play classic TV roles.

Pity that Jerry Orbach's left us. He would have owned the role of Kolchak. Then again it would probably have been Lennie Briscoe all over again, but who cares? Briscoe rocked!

Is this actually happening or is this speculation? I'd have thought Depp would be out of the running since he's busy reprising another early-70s icon in Barnabas Collins for Dark Shadows.

If this happening, I've got no problems with Depp in the role, though personally Kolchak is more a part for the likes of Robert Downey Jr. Downey is also my choice if they ever decide to drink from the poisoned chalice and remake Columbo.

^

Actually, that would be so funny that it might work.

Why not, only about 1 percent of the audience would know why it's funny. ;)

They're already filming that - might be done, in fact.

I like that better! :bolian:

How about Philip Seymour Hoffman? Or for the unexpected choice - Matt Damon! :D

This is actually in development. I guess there's no rule to say that Depp can't play Barnabas, Kolchak, and Tonto . . . . .

I think Depp seems capable of 'disappearing' into a role. He seems pretty good at crafting characters, even if we're always pretty aware that he's still 'Johnny Depp'.

But after seeing Depp coast as Willy Wonka, then watching THE PRODUCERS remake, I think there should be a Gene Wilder role...

.....It is impossible to surpass, let alone equal, any iconic Wilder role. So far, anyway. I suppose a SILVER STREAK remake is an inevitability.
