I think it was great. I didn't agree with what Abrams has done to Star Trek but I think he has maybe really done some good work with SW. So take the poll and discuss.

This thread might fit better in the "Science Fiction/Fantasy" section, although the main Episode VII thread contains an excellent discussion of the new trailer.

I just realized that. I thought this was a general discussion thread but its the General Trek discussion thread. My mistake. How do I go about moving this thread? If there is another thread there its better to just delete this one.

Looks miles better than the prequels ever did, but dubious of any franchise that gets JJ's name attached to it.

Haven't watched, because no speakers for this machine.

Sounds like an attempt to sway voting, because your opinion of Abrams Star Trek has nothing to do with users evaluating Abrams Star Wars.

I just hope we don't get another "faction". There's enough hate and infighting going on between the Prequel and Original Trilogy crowds (to say nothing about Original vs. Special Edition), now there's going to be more fighting between them and the Sequel Trilogy crowd? Please let's not let things get that bad... :(

We have three generations of people who love and watch Star Wars now. We have the people who sat and watched the OT in theaters. We have their children, some of whom were very young when the OT came out and others that were young when the PT came out. Now we have their children that are young as ST comes out (or started with the Clone Wars or even Rebels this last year).

Yet it is all Star Wars.

Unlike Star Trek were people continue to deny entire shows from having happened for them, Star Wars just is. You can pay attention to as much or as little as you like. It is just Star Wars.

I am more or less of the second group, though could be the first group. I was born in 1977. Two days after my parents saw Star Wars in a drive in theater. I saw the Empire Strikes Back in theaters at one of its followup releases just prior to Return of the Jedi coming out. Saw Return of the Jedi near the release date. Decades later I saw the Special Editions in theater. I saw The Phantom Menace twice in the theater (once on opening day and then once with my mother a week later) I saw Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith on or near opening day. I didn't go to see Clone Wars in the theater, but watched the movie later. I'll likely see The Force Awakens on or near opening day with my friend and his wife and son.

There is a list of the top 25 Academy Award Winning films with the highest box office. On that list are two Star Wars films Star Wars and The Phantom Menace. Next year I think there will be three on the list with The Force Awakens joining the other two, as the film is bound to win at least one Academy Award (special effects) and bring in a ton of money.

Sorry, but it's already beginning with some already describing Episode VII as being all style and no substance.

Even though all we've seen of Episode VII is a couple of trailers...
:sigh:

You know, I'm really getting fucking annoyed with people constantly needing to compare nuTrek to the new SW films just because the same guy who directed two ST movies is directing one of the new SW films. Pubert's not the only one doing this either.

SW discussions should be about SW, not ST. To compare the two is dumb. It's like comparing E.T. to Saving Private Ryan just because the same guy directed them.

I think a comparison of how JJ has handled either franchise is ok. I just think he seems to be following what Lucas did very well. He tended to change ST from what Rodenberry originally proposed.

But you don't know how Abrams is handling the SW "franchise" because you've only seen two trailers from the one film he's going to direct. So you have no basis for any kind of comparison at this time, even if you were serious about making one. But I'm pretty sure this has nothing to do with Abrams's direction of SW:TFA.

And I'm not even going to dignify your quote comparing Abrams to Roddenberry with a response, since it has nothing to do with SW anyway.

I actually don't care who is directing right now. The trailer was good. It makes me want to know what is going on. It makes me want to invest time into that universe again.

But then I was a Star Wars fan first. Everything else came later.

And thank you very much for ignoring what I just wrote.

I didn't ignore what you wrote I just disagree with it. Saving Private Ryan and ET are totally different genres. ST and SW are very similar genres and JJ has now directed movies in both of them. Its a fair comparison in style and quality.

I'm positive it will be better than the T̶N̶G̶ ̶f̶i̶l̶m̶s prequels. ;) The trailer is awesome btw. It takes me back to the time I watched the ST09 trailer.

I loved the second trailer. Mark Hamill's voiceover, the Millennium Falcon, a wrecked Star Destroyer, X-Wings, R2, Han and Chewie..I'm really really looking forward to this one.
