What did you read in 2010?

Rosalind

TrekLit's Dr Rose Mod
Admiral
So, now that we're all in the new year, time to review our readings from the last year. How did you go?

I did badly last year with my reading, only managed 5 Star Trek books (and here I thought I was going to catch up in the year with less output), and 12 non-Trek books. Various things in my life really ate my reading times. So, new year's resolution is to read twice as many books.

I've always had remembering what I read when so I know this is not everything but I do know that in the last year I read some of the stories in Star Trek :DS9 Prophecy and Change, Mere Anarchy and Seven Deadly Sins, the expanded The Sorrows of Empire, Immortal Coil, and probably a some other Trek books I'm not remembering . Then on the non-Trek front I read the first three Dresden Files, the first two Southern Vampire Mysteries, Golden Compass, The Subtle Knife, Star Wars: The Phantom Menace novelisation, and probably other stuff I'm not remembering.

Trek novels read in 2010:
Typhon Pact: Zero Sum Game

Yep. That's it for Treklit. There wasn't a single book released earlier in the year that interested me. I pretty much only read the novel series set in the 24th century (TNG, DS9, VOY, Titan) so the emphasis on TOS early in the year, followed by the long drought of nothing through the summer, pretty much kept me away from any new Treklit until the very end.

I spent 2010 reading tons of other stuff, including the last four Harry Potter novels, catching up on The Dresden Files, and reading an assortment of random other novels like The Strain, The Lost Symbol, Stardust, and others.

I'm going to copy my post (with some new additions) from this thread to answer:

  • The Writers Tale: The Final Chapter by Russell T Davis
  • Driven to Distruction by Jeremy Clarkson

Star Trek : The Next Generation : Greater Than The Sum

This year I decided to use the sparse schedule to finally read the DS9 Relaunch that I've been wanting to get to since I first saw it advertised in 2001. Being someone who likes to read any backstory first, however, I started in on a long, drawn-out plan for the books I was going to read:

New Earth - Read the first book or two at the tail end of 2009, then finished it off in 2010 so I'd be all set for Chainmail.
The Captain's Table - Read these books alongside the early New Frontier novels, since the fifth book is part of that series.
New Frontier - Read all of these up through the story in What Lay Beyond.
Maximum Warp - Read this duology, mainly for the teaser it provides for the DS9 Relaunch.
SCE - Read the first nine of these stories alongside the DS9 Relaunch.
DS9 Relaunch - Starting with A Stitch in Time, I've read up through the story in What Lay Beyond so far.
Gateways - Read the first six of these books so far, and I'm almost to the end of What Lay Beyond.

I also tossed in Synthesis and Precipice in here, and come to a total of about 40 Trek books. For non-Trek books, I've read most of the What If? collection of alternate history stories.

Let's see if I remember all that I read this past year. It wasn't much unfortunately.

Halo: Evolutions
Stargate SG-1: Roswell
Stargate SG-1: Relativity
Babylon 5: Legions of Fire Trilogy
and the first half of Star Trek: Typhon Pact: Zero Sum Game (currently reading)

2010 goal of getting back into Trek literature...completed.

I just posted my annual book report at my Live Journal, for anyone who might be interested in that. Nine of the 39 titles I read titles were Trek -- four 2010's, four "catch-ups" from previous years, and one re-read for a sekrit project.

Also read, of interest to the Trek community:
Draw the Dark, by Ilsa J. Bick
Supernatural: Heart of the Dragon, by Keith R.A. DeCandido
Counterstrike: The Last World War, Book II, by Dayton Ward
Space Grunts, ed. by Dayton Ward (with stories by Derek Tyler Attico, Kirsten Beyer, John Coffren, Jeff D. Jacques, Alan L. Lickliss, Scott Pearson, James Swallow, Geoffrey Thorne, and Ward)

I'm so jealous of those of you who read so many more books than me. I'm way behind right now. I set out to read 12 Trek books this year, 12 Star Wars books, and 12 books of Catholic fiction or non-fiction. I got a little ahead in some catagories, and a little behind in others. As far as Trek goes:

Voyager: Unworthy
The Sorrows of Empire
TNG: Losing the Peace
TOS: Enemy Unseen
NF: Martyr
TOS: Original Marvel Comic Series
DS9: The Soul Key
Enterprise: The Romulan War
TOS: Untold Voyages Comic Series
TOS: The Covenant of the Crown
TOS: Crew TPB
TOS: Inception
TOS: Timetrap
TOS: Early Voyages Comic Series
Vanguard: Open Secrets

I guess Trek was one I got ahead on at 19 books (I counted Early Voyages and Old Marvel as 3 trade sized collections). Star Wars came up to 18 ranging from a few KotOR trades, going back over some old stuff, and mostly the old Clone Wars continuity and now starting on the newer books. Only got to 11 theology and Catholic fiction books. Oh and I read Watchmen.

Catholic fiction? This is my first time hearing of such a genre! What's it like? Priests who solve mysteries?
