What did you *give* for Christmas/Hanukkah/Holidays?

I noticed a few posters mention in the Tell us about your presents thread that most of the joy of Christmas and the holidays for them came form *giving* gifts, rather than receiving them.

I'm a giver, as well. So this is a thread for you tell everyone what you gave others for Christmas!

To my fiance:

Skilsaw table saw
Platinum wedding band (though he can't wear it until the wedding lol)
Halo for PC
Nikon Coolpix camera, camera case

To his kids:

DVDs - Napolean Dynamite, Donnie Darko, V for Vendetta
Games - Sims 2 Pets, Call to Duty 2 Disc Ed. for PS2, Tony Hawk's Proving Grounds for PS2

A gigantic ceramic travel mug
A hair crimper
An iPod speaker set
Candy

A Hamilton Beach 6-cup coffee maker with no carafe (dispenses from a push-button)

To my grandma:

An English-themed gift basket I put together, with English toffee, crackers, tea, and cheese (she's proud of her brit heritage)

A classic Colorforms set (I played with these myself as a kid, up until I was about 7 or so - they're 3 and 5, respectively).

I got my dad a book (about Warren Buffett); everybody else got gift cards.

Well, what should I have done? My dad is the only one who told me what he wanted. For the rest of them, gift cards are the only logical option. :)

In our family, we don't really give each other presents at Christmas anymore. However, we do provide food for our feast. I provided some fresh bread and biscuits.

I was however able to give my mum a copy of LOST series 4. Now if only she'd watch the other 3 series I got her in previous years...

At this point, my parents are still kind enough to let me sign on with their gifts to the rest of the family, so I really don't have to do a lot of shopping. But here's what I got for them:

For my dad--The When We Left Earth DVDs. He never got to watch the whole series when it was on, but he's a huge space program fan, so he was very surprised and happy with this.

For my mom--The new David Cook CD, and from the Yankee Candle store, a Christmas tree-smelling candle, a candle cup, and a candle snuffer.

(Though she got more items, it added up to about the same as the DVDs once you figured in the sales on everything.)

I gave a very "special present" to all those posters who have suddenly vanished during the holidays. He he he

I gave my family DVDs. To my sister, the first Brendan Fraser "The Mummy" movie, in hopes of getting her to watch something with no screeching preteen girls in it when I have to take care of her. Fortunately she's a big fan of this movie too, so my plan ought to be successful.

I got my dad a DVD of the original "The Producers" comedy, and my mom the first volume of a show called "Perry Mason", which I am aware of only because of Raymond Burr's connection to the original Godzilla movie. But I happen to know that she likes the show a lot, which is obviously why I chose it.

In the house where I live at school we had a "Secret Santa" gift exchange, and I gave to my friend the movie review book Mike Nelson wrote shortly after MST3K ended. She talks about movies a lot and has about the same sense of humor as I do, so I think she'll like it.

I sent a stuffed panda doll to one of my friends who I met at school in Berkeley, but has moved back to her home country of China. She loves pandas and "dolls with large heads", or so she tells me.

To the girl I like in Japan I sent two movie posters, both of movies she likes a lot (Lord of the Rings and Monty Python & the Holy Grail). Also, a package of somewhat funny little toys of household pets in zombie form. She likes zombies and has a number of pets, so I think that's appropriate.

And that basically used up all the money I had, so nobody else got anything.

We still haven't mailed out Xmas/Hannukah cards, so you can bet the presents haven't gone anywhere either!

We tend to give gift cards--Costco, Target, Starbucks--but avoiding Circuit City and Best Buy for right now.

We did get our little nephew some blocks made in Germany. We were trying to avoid toys from China or toys painted with paint from China. Hubby wanted to get the boy something noisy (he doesn't always get along with his brother, the boy's father).

A friend who just got a house is getting her favorite booze (more as a housewarming), while her boyfriend is getting a jar of gefilte fish. Yeah, he was curious as to what it looked/smelled/tasted like and was frustrated by my inability to describe it.

We gave a friend/classmate/study-partner of mine a significant amount of money to go towards a new laptop since his is suicidal. He almost refused it--well, he did repeatedly try to refuse it.

Hubby and I don't give gifts to each other--we "allow" each other to get what each wants during the year (especially if it's on sale at the time). Hubby wanted a set of nail guns for around the house and putting up new tirm around all the new windows we're slowly installing--but he got that over a month ago. He bought me some blouses and jeans, but again, that was cause they were on sale and I needed some nice blouses and jeans.

I really don't understand those (usually women) who are given whatever they want during the year, then bitch if their husbands don't bend over backwards for holidays, birthdays, or anniversaries. Geez! It just seems so ungrateful. To buy, buy, buy because a spouse is willing to get you anything is just taking advantage of their generosity--it's just wrong.

Oh, and our credit cards get paid in full each month. The only continuing debt is our mortgage, one car, and our student loans. The last three we'll likely try to pay off next year since the interest rates, while not high, are far more than the interest on savings accounts.

To my dad:
A new hardcover book that chronicles Yankee Stadium's history and it contains tons of never before seen pictures. A really nice book if anyone is interested in that type of thing.

To my mom:
Three Dennis Lehane books. He's a favorite author of mine and now a favorite author of hers!

To my sister:
Four young adult mystery novels.

To my aunt:
A Star Wars TPB comic and a Flogging Molly CD.

Funny Games
Good Night and Good Luck
